Dr Karl's Little Book of Trivia 101 by award-winning Australian science communicator and popular national radio/TV personality Karl Kruszelnicki, a member of the Order of Australia (Wikipedia, official website with podcasts and such), is a mini-collection of exactly 101 fun facts and explanations about various science, nature, technology, and cultural phenomena ranging from Finnish wife-carrying contests to why stars appear to twinkle to how Friday the 13th became a bad luck superstition and much more, free courtesy of publisher Pan Macmillan Australia.
This is the featured Free Book of the Week in the iTunes Australia store, and while it consists of repackaged sampler extracts from his full-length titles meant to promote their purchase, it does appear to contain the full text of each topical essay-ette and presents a substantial number of them, enough to make this a worthwhile and nifty-looking light edutainment read. Currently free @ Amazon AU, Kobo (available to Canadians and other countries, but apparently not free in the US) & iTunes (available to Canadians and pretty much everywhere I spot-checked worldwide, including the US). Price-drop-check linkage for B&N UK (doesn't seem to exist in the main store yet), Amazon main (also UK), & Google Play (this may already be free there in Australia, as the official Pan Macmillan website seems to indicate this is meant to be priced at $0.00 throughout that country). And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day. Because science is awesome, and so are people who help to explain it so that everyone can share in the awesome. ![]() ![]() Enjoy! Description Why do stars seem to twinkle? Where do all the teaspoons go? Why is the Giant Panda so paradoxical? Why does dark matter matter? The world around (and inside) us is completely astonishing. Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, the most esteemed science communicator in Australia, has chosen 101 fascinating facts from his bestselling books to delight and intrigue you. Taking a microscope to everyday science he gives us insights into the surprising origins of the "selfie", the rise and rise of 3D printing, how a nit is hatched by massive amounts of farting, why humans are basically fat doughnuts, and how you can stop milk from spoiling by dropping a Russian brown frog into it. These are things you need to know. These are things you don't even know you need to know. A riveting ride through the extraordinary world of science. |

For others with fewer issues, it's still free on iTunes.

US persons who can't pick this up via Kobo and don't have an iDevice/Mac can always do the Report a Lower Price thing against iTunes and hope that Amazon will match.
As a weekly iTunes promo freebie, this should be good through Sunday, giving a few more days in which to try. |

I will make a post, if it works. There might be other people who would like to get the ebook free. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 08-19-2015 at 08:01 PM. |
