I hope the reason that there haven't been many posts of late is because you folks are READING and not in denial about more purchases and the ever increasing TBR.

I've been good. Only purchased some audiobooks when on sale that are part of a series I'm currently listening to. I had a whole series scanned and converted some months ago (author died some years ago and books appear to be orphaned) and am finally getting to reading it, so that keeps me off the computer and keeps me from being tempted.

I have only bought a latest book from favourite authors at 70% off this month so far. Apart from my SF/F Magazine subscriptions.

And now I've bought the Delphi Classics complete RLS with Part edition, just to see how good they are.

I haven't purchased anything since April so I'm doing ok. However, there are one or two books I have my eye on. If my library doesn't buy them, I probably will.

I think most of my recent purchases have actually been second-hand pbooks, since everything on my Amazon wishlists seems to have risen by about 30%. I'm still buying too many second-hand pbooks, but overall I'm just about breaking even.

I did buy two backlist books the other day - the first two Blackbird books by Freda Warrington, which she seems be self-republishing for kindle. I remember really liking this unusual fantasy series back when it was originally released in the 80s, and I'm kind of hoping it hasn't been visited by the suck fairies in the meantime. I have no idea when I'll find time to actually read them, though, which does mean it was probably an unnecessary purchase, but then again, they don't count towards my TBR when I've already read them.

As my Kindle is registered to Amazon.com instead Amazon.fr, I realize how cheap books are in US. I knew it of course, but the most I see prices, the less I want to go back to the french store.
I bought some ebooks I'm sure I'm not able to read yet (Game of thrones...).
I think I can subscribe here now

I've been meaning to post for a while.

After the 90% Kobo promotion in the spring, my goal for the year was dead in the water. Just the same, I feel as if I've got this thing licked. Knock wood. I've made only a few trivial/promotional purchases since.

I've had bad experiences lately with Kobo and Amazon customer service. The Kobo experience doesn't require elaboration, but I had to return a Kindle book which had literally hundreds of OCR errors; it was so bad I couldn't even make out what word was meant much of the time. Despite a promise to the contrary and much time on hold, I only got back the portion that was charged and not my Prime no-rush credit, which was not an insignificant account. I have standing promotional credits at both purveyors which I will of course spend, but I'm really getting tired of the hassle. The recent breakdowns in Kobo contests plus indications of increasing attempts by all sellers to lock down their content are also creating an atmosphere where I feel it's time to walk away.

I already own, of course, sufficient ebooks to last me a decade or more. I will admit that I'm reading more library pbooks again as well as purchasing the occasional one. I prefer reading ebooks, but so long as I've got at least one going that I can read in bed or on the hoof, it doesn't kill me to read pbooks in my armchair. I've also found that one of my OverDrive libraries is amenable to purchase recommendations.

So, taken as a whole, I'm comfortable with the ebook library I have and my stratagem for tamping down my ebook buying lust. OK, I know I sound complacent and could be blindsided or just slip into bad habits, and if there's another 90% promotion at Kobo, I'll be the first to belly up to the bar. But for now? Eh.

I broke down and bought the most recent Bruno, Chief of Police book, which I really can't justify even though I love the books. Full price, no Kobo coupons, just bad. OTOH, I got a 90% coupon from Kobo and used that to fill in a gap in a favourite series. Don't feel bad about that one at all.

"Love" and "will read right away" add up to sufficient justification according to my lights.

And it's no holds barred when you're clutching a 90% coupon in your hot little virtual hands!

I have to agree with issybird on Bruno Chief of Police books. I always buy them when they first come out. It also helps that they are great rereads.

Agreed. But see, I have so many other books in my TBR, I could have waited a bit and hope the local library got them, or that the price came down below $10. But impatience won out. And I'll certainly enjoy it.

And not too shabby. The titles are in ALL CAPS which is unfortunate, and the series is in the Tags, but apart from that they look good on first glance. I shall have to check the texts (Of Kidnapped and Catriona) against my editions to see what the text quality is like.

Meanwhile I've picked up another bargain or two with my Amazon 'no rush shipping' credits: I Shall Wear Midnight (the only Discworld novel I didn't have in ebook form) and Shaman's Crossing (The first in one of Robin Hobb's trilogies). Both heavily reduced from their normal prices.

But still only £11.44 spent on ebooks this month so far.
