Stupid cut&paste error on my part... Sorry! (I've edited the original mail)

It's lucky that I didn't read the instructions carefully, so I didn't notice and follow such obvious error.

Hansel.
Never mind. Managed to figure it out and thanks for this new lister. It is working perfectly and is a great change to the iLiad.

Excellent News!

I think that if this proves to be stable, and we can provide an easy way to change the amount of items displayed on a page (read a conf file in /mnt/settings maybe?), then this can be added to the initial release of the community firmware.

I have a feature request: Make CL pass "NEWS", "BOOKS", "DOCS", "NOTES" key press event to user-application.
Currently, these 4 buttons are trapped and reserved by CL without passing them to user-application. Thus, these four buttons are useful for CL, but are useless for user-application. If CL can pass these 4 buttons to user-application as, for example, GDK_F7, GDK_F8, GDK_F9, GDK_F10, then user-application may have a chance to utilize them.

  • It will be an honour to be part of the first Iliad release ever of the community firmware
  • Good idea to configure the nr of items in a file. I think registry.xml would be a good this setting (it's already read by contenLister). I'll add that in a next release... I should be possible to add a gui for it somewhere in the settings screens, but that might be a lot of work without a lot of fun, so initially a simple 'regedit' should suffice...
  • I'm experimenting with a safe installer for newLister. It will be in Lua (easier to work with files, strings and xml, and more fun than shell scripts). I'll post it when I'm satisfied with it...

Adam: Nice to see you back; I was afraid you switched to the new Irex thingy . Something else: I think it will be VERY important to have a cleanly defined and easy to install reference environment to build stuff for the 'community firmware': something so that any developer can do a top level 'build_from_scratch" and get the same binaries. Any ideas about this (in another thread maybe?)

Feature request:
have a program running on the backgroud, and keep monitor where the stylus have touched on the screen, and respond accordingly, the whole screen can be separate to 9 areas from top to bottom, have every areas implement one of following action:
forward 1 page
backward 1 page
forward 5 page
backward 5 page
system menu-> call out other useful option maybe switch to full screen/exit full screen mode,
rotate 90 degree
pdf in continous mode->forward/backward
fbreader->show preference dialog/table of contents
that's mean we can have the basic function when reading, but have full screen possibility.
If this can be achieve, it will be great, my flipbar sometimes doesn't do what I want it to do.

What about an ipkg package? It's default on the iLiad and can be easily extended with postinst, prerm etc. scripts (maybe even in Lua).

Thanks! I've thought about that (a little): I'll still need an install script to call ipkg in different ways? So I'm wondering what the reward is for using ipkg...

For those interested: I have added my notes (links to download and tutorial) on https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Application_Packaging

the function "ctrl_check_extension" in control.c is useless. I have tested it. CL deal with file according to registry.xml, whether "ctrl_check_extension" returns true or false does not matter.
