There have been a few updates already for firmware 5.6+ (which includes the PW2). As far as we can tell without having a PW2 to test on, it should be working fine (better than before, in fact, as the Notable Clips feature is now working).
If you have the new version of the program and are still having issues, let us know.

i am able to get xray partially working from menu. but upon selecting a word, the xray tab is still greyed out.

I mentioned it in this post. Basically what darrenmcg found out is that if you do not have the aliases for the book set up properly, it will not display the menu for all of the terms within the X-Ray.
So if you have "Arya Stark" and do not have an "Arya" alias defined in the aliases file, clicking on her name in the book will not work.

Hey guys, could anybody give me a quick tutorial on how to manually add aliases for characters? Like when only a first or last name is used to refer to a character.

It's pretty simple. When you start building the X-Ray, choose "yes" when it prompts to edit the aliases. You'll get a file that looks like:
Code:
Arya Stark|
Tyrion Lannister|
Jon Snow|
If you want to add an alias for their first names, edit it to look like this:
Code:
Arya Stark|Arya
Tyrion Lannister|Tyrion
Jon Snow|Jon
If they go by other nicknames you can add more:
Code:
Arya Stark|Arya,Little Girl,Princess Buttercup
Tyrion Lannister|Tyrion,Shorty,Whatever
Jon Snow|Jon,Mama's Boy,Son of Ned Stark
Keep in mind that the names are case-sensitive (or used to be, can't remember if we changed that).
Sometimes it helps to search through the rawml file (saved to the dmp directory if the setting is enabled) to find proper aliases for characters.

HarryT, As I see it this program works on DRM-free books only, and it's good for creating reading pattern and better book characters understanding. I don't see any mentioning or hint on pirated books.

Any book you buy outside Amazon has no X-Ray feature, and even on Amazon it is not available for all Kindle books
