The shutdown function shouldn't be all that important if sleep mode works well. But when I had battery drainage, this was something I really wanted. The other aspect is, while on my H2O two additional icons look fine to me, I can see that on the devices with a smaller screen that might be too much. I used one additional icon on the Glo for some time, and that didn't feel overloaded to me. But then you'd have to decide which one. Some might prefer the light toggle, others the shutdown. I'm not sure whether there's enough general interest to try to get this into the official build. And that's fine with me. This is a trivial little hack that enhances usability for me. Thanks to the free software culture, this is possible. And if a few people find it helpful, the better. I might also make a one-icon version if people want that. But I don't feel like maintaining different variations longer-term. (OTOH, the file readermenu.lua isn't very likely to change that frequently). Last edited by xor_; 08-12-2015 at 07:16 PM. |

Well, from my personal perspective, I'd like to see it included in official build. Having easy way to toggle light and shut device off is very handy. And if it could be achieved easily, why not include it?
Maybe (don't know is it doable) to have option somewhere in the menu for each of additional icons to be visible or not, so we all can decide to use them or not. I personally would choose to use both of them, but some might not. |

Hi,
@xor Thank you for the buttons, I have no more battery problems now thanks to you. The problem is probably still there but at least it can't affect my kobo anymore ![]() A little suggestion : (the cherry on the cake ![]() It would be perfect if the shut down button could print the cover of the current book before exiting. |

Oops, I just found a bug. I had left an old block of code in there in which I had tried something out. And it results in shutdown not working, or working unexpectedly in some cases. Sorry.
I think I've fixed it, but haven't tested it a whole lot, since it's 4:30 a.m. See updated version here Last edited by xor_; 08-14-2015 at 08:23 AM. |

Sleep/suspend
I use KSM 07 and Koreader. I usually have a sleep/suspend function which uses the cover of the current book. That's nice. For no reason that I could understand, sometimes, the sleep/function works only with the current page and the word "suspended" within an information box. How could I revert to the first way? What triggers this change? |

1. If the book has a cover, the cover will be shown. 2. If the book has no cover (or set to not use the book's cover) one of the following will be used: a. The image file you have designated will be used, or: b. If you haven't provided an image file. the message box with "Suspended" will be used. The place to indicate where you put the image is one of the "Advanced" settings. The "Screensaver" menu in the Reader Menu has the option to check if you want the cover used. Luck; Ken |

Thanks for sharing this mod. I might have found another issue: on my Aura H2O reading progress is not saved when using the shutdown function. Daniel |

Thanks for the info. In the "advanced settings" (pretty well "hidden" file...), I read: KOBO_SCREEN_SAVER="" KOBO_SCREEN_SAVER_LAST_BOOK=true Is there something better to set up? Last edited by roger64; 08-14-2015 at 02:29 AM. |

And I believe I've fixed this bug as well now. As for the previous bug about shutdown. Koreader saves the last tab position for each file in the history. If that is the shutdown tab, it might immediately shutdown upon menu access. If you run into this, just delete or edit the history file for that book. There's a line in there: ["readermenu_tab_index"] = 2, and that value shouldn't be 9. 2 is a good substitute value. This should be fixed now, but it could still occur when opening a book that had this value saved from the previous version. |

These are stored in the file(s) "defaults.lua" and "defaults.persistent.lua". If you open the defaults.lua file using Notepad++, there are notes provided better describing the options you can use for the features. Many settings in Koreader are made default by long pressing your selection. Luck; Ken |

Need advice on Koreader / OPDS problem
Hi all,
I installed KSM07 + Koreader (currently the latest nightly version) onto my Kobo Glo a couple of weeks ago and thus far I have been very happy with it. My main issue thus far has been getting content onto my device in the most seamless way possible. To summarize, I have a python script that grabs an epub of my saved Wallabag (an open source alternative to Pocket) articles every hour and adds it to a folder watched by Calibre on a desktop PC I run at home. This and any other pdfs or epubs I add to the watched folder get automatically added to a Calibre library. This library is in turn synced to my VPS which runs COPS (Calibre OPDS PHP Server). My hope is to use the OPDS browser in Koreader to grab epubs and pdfs from this OPDS server. Everything up to this point works flawlessly, and I can browse the COPS OPDS catalog via Koreader. But I can't download. When I tap a document (say example.epub), I get a message that says "Could not save file to /mnt/onboard/Downloads/example.epub". When I look in /mnt/onboard/Downloads/ there is indeed a file called example.epub, but it is an epub version of a 404 (not found) page rather than the example.epub on the server. The same happens with .mobi and .pdf files (though in the latter case there is no file in Downloads). Initially I thought I had a configuration problem on the server, but I am able to download the same documents from the same server in other clients (Marvin on iOS, LuciFox, the COPS browser interface) without issue. As far as I can tell the COPS server is fully compliant with the OPDS standard. I cannot find any open issue on github (cops or koreader) that relates to my problem. I have spent the past couple days searching the MobileRead threads on koreader (this one) and COPS without finding anything on my problem. Questions: (1) Has anyone successfully downloaded a document from a COPS OPDS server via Koreader? How about *any* OPDS server over the internet (not LAN)? [EDIT: I can download an epub from the built in link to Project Gutenberg. But if the problem is with COPS why do all other clients seemingly work ok?] If so, what version of Koreader are you running? (2) Can someone advise me on whether there are logs in Koreader that will tell me what URL it is trying to access when it downloads these 404 pages? Is there any other information you would suggest I gather before reporting an issue on github? (3) What is the process to downgrade to an earlier nightly version of Koreader? (I'd like to see if this issue exists in earlier versions.) Does this require a factory reset? Is there a particular nightly version that you have found reasonably stable? I would prefer to get the OPDS functionality working but failing that Calibre server on the LAN would be better than nothing. The latest nightly version of Koreader freezes and never recovers (until pinhole restart) when I try to browse my Calibre server on the LAN. Any suggestions or answers to the above would be greatly appreciated. Last edited by gummihuhn; 08-14-2015 at 10:39 AM. |

The OPDS plugin doesn't yet support authentication.
Basically, Koreader is confined to its folder all that is needed is to replace the existing koreader folder with the one you want to try. You can delete the existing folder on your device before you use a different one, it might be a good idea if you are trying to correct a problem. For a normal update, I just copyover/merge the new folder over the old. Also, With KSM you can have more than one instance of Koreader and select between them. I have not tried the latest nightly, but v2014.11-267 is working fine with OPDS, for me. You might want to get Koreader you are using working with the supplied sites, including your local calibre catalog on your LAN, before trying it with your cloud COPS setup. The guys at GitHub won't bite. Luck; Ken Last edited by Ken Maltby; 08-14-2015 at 10:46 AM. |
