Sorta on topic.

Has anyone notice less spam since the windows upgrade, in their e-mail?

I know there is always the possibility that the upgrade wiped out any hidden doodads that helped spam target mail.

I use yahoo mail and since the upgrade the spam has dropped by at least 90% and better.

It's vanishingly unlikely that upgrading your operating system would have any impact on spam. If you're seeing less spam, the most likely reason is that a major botnet has been shut down.

I use gmail and see virtually no spam; gmail's spam filters are excellent.

I know.

But at least for me the coincidence that spam was a fact of life before the upgrade and after the upgrade poof my spam has virtually disappeared.

It was that glaring, so hence my question to the forum to see if I am alone seeing this.

I use both gmail and ymail, and you are right gmails filters are very good. But I have had my ymail account many years longer than gmail.

I spoke too soon. Using iTunes (which is the most important program on my laptop) I'm getting the blue screen of death aka IRQL Unexpected Value. I've googled it and seen that it's probably drivers, only problem is I have no idea which one. I thought it might be my network adapter but windows is telling me it's uptodate.

The video driver is the most likely culprit. Try running in "Safe Mode" (I assume Windows 10 has a Safe Mode?) and see if it still happens.

Just an aside....this is one thing that totally sucks about windows, almost everything runs through, goes through, is managed by the video driver.

I've seen the most unlikely things be 'fixed' by upgrading or changing the video driver....

I don't think anyone who has OneNote desktop wants to ever see the Metro version (or Modern? or is it now called Universal? ) so I hope they fix that soon.

Edit: looked on MS site and yes it's the same pen for the S3 and SP3.
MS support site says this:

Surface Pen uses two types of batteries:

Writing, erasing, and right-clicks are powered by one AAAA alkaline battery you install in the bottom part of the pen.
Opening OneNote and taking screenshots are powered by two pre-installed, size 319 silver-oxide coin cell batteries in the top of the pen.

HOWEVER I saw on a different page that the AAAA battery doesn't power the bluetooth, so the 319's likely do. In that case taking them out may stop all pen functionality so may not do what you want

All I want is for MS to fix their own stuff so that when I set the top button to open OneNote desktop, it does indeed open OneNote desktop
It's wodin who would like to disable the top button altogether.

I had hope as some updates for Office 2013 were just installed, but nope my pen top button still open the £$%^* wrong OneNote (rebooted too, just in case)
Edit: weirdly, the Office update I got just now was the one from July I'm sure I had that last month. Oh well, one of those things I guess...

Thanks Harry and Kenny for the suggestions. I've already rolled back to W7 now, just checking everything's okay. I get very uneasy with Safe Mode and paying around with the system. Tbh I have my Surface running W10, my laptop is more the Hub now for iTunes (hence my concern) and pictures and its linked to Dropbox so I don't really gain anything by forcing the upgrade. its not like W7 is going away anytime soon.

Yep, I'm sticking with Win 7 on my DVR laptop for different, but similar reasons.

How do I tell it to stop notifying me about startup apps potentially affecting performance without entirely turning off notifications?

The reason I'm sticking with Windows 7 on my laptop is that I have an excellent Dell Multi-function device (combination of scanner and printer) that I use frequently, and which, annoyingly, doesn't have Windows 8/10 drivers available .
