the led light in the middle below (when i do have the reader perdenicular on my eyes, right in front of me)? is this normal or an artifact? and some small spots appear when having a full black page, seeing from top to bottom at full brightness (pin hole check), these spots are about 1/3 - 1/4 of a mm i guess (does not bother me that much btw). see pics below. I would say the LED was installed a fraction too high during build. If it was that bright at whatever level I read at I'd be warranty returning because even at full power it doesn't show that way on mine. Is this at full light setting? Really, those spots are pretty innocuous if you're looking at a full black screen with the light at full. There is going to be slight variations likely in every screen. And have you cleaned the screen to make sure it's not a surface distortion?

That middle LED issue I would probably class as defective, my H2O has no issue with the LEDs like that.

As far as those small bright spots are concerned, I get spots like that if the screen gets a bit dirty (not dust). The screen seems to attract spots of dirt (or something) unlike most other devices I've owned. It seems to require regular cleaning. I use a microfibre cloth (like the one that comes with the device) to give it a scrub fairly regularly. |

Middle LED is definitely a defect. If the bright spots don't distract during normal reading, I'd ignore them. Full black/full brightness is not a normal reading situation.

is best visible when full brightness on a black page in a dark room, but normal reading is for example at 40% it is still noticeable (not that annoying though) when reading on the couch with normal light (from a bulb). initially, i think i can live with it (if this would be normal i would accept it), but i looked a little bit closer and i think it might contain less ink on that specific spot/area, a few lines less (there is not a curve in the rubber between the glass and plastic front i noticed, so that is not the problem i think), so a production fault (i preferably not want to have one).

also, would this be counted for warranty/repair, i.e. error in product design, or will kobo classify it as non-emergency, as naturally happening (i.e., a by-product of normal manufacturing which is excluded for this kind of repair)? i think i will ask for a refund now i still can, because it is a fault in manufacturing (i checked some others in the shop that had it not and the girl there said she could notice it too, even at daylight). Go for it, if you can get a refund or replacement directly at the place you bought it.

It's not supposed to be that way and it's not your fault so … |

I tried another series, and bleeding / bright led / light in the middle is present in 6 h2o's, some more bright than others. I think I will keep the current one since it has hardly any bright holes when the light is on. Also, I noted that it is not present in Glo HDs (at least the 3 I saw/tested). Somehow KOBO did some adjustments to the screens.

My H2O doesn't have any of these light spots at the bottom. That is odd that so many of them do. If I was buying direct in a shop, I'd ask to make sure I got a good one before leaving.
