And along with the advice on never leaving your next device in the car (or anywhere else it may be exposed to extremes of temperature) - also buy and use a good, rigid case. |

The large size screen of the Aura HD is more fragile than the smaller 6" screen, it seems to me. I never take mine out of the house. I have 6" readers in cases that I take with me everywhere.

I carry my readers with me all year round, and our weather ranges from -10° to up to mid-90°s F. Occasionally lower and higher, but I usually won't go out on those days. I just keep my reader in a sturdy cover to protect the glass and either in my pocket or a very small purse. I'll also read outside in the low teens to 90°F and I've never had a problem with the weather and moving in and out of buildings, trains, cars, etc.
Looking at that screenshot I have a hard time believing it was only a temperature change that caused it, that screen looks shattered. Unless you took a 90° reader and popped it into the freezer. My readers have all been 5" and 6" readers as well, nothing larger. |

Yes, it looks like what happened to my 6" Aura when I dropped it on a tile floor. (I still miss the lovely size, too) |

Didn't someone else report a similar problem with a 6.8" Aura left in a car recently?

That is correct. I participated in that other thread and suggested that the larger the reader the more fragile the glass. This devolved into a discussion of drinking glasses, volume, and water. ![]() |

I feel bad for the OP. For what it's worth, even if there was local Kobo presence, Kobo's customer support is there mainly to keep repeating that screen issues are the customer's fault and not covered under warranty.
I respectfully disagree with the presumption that all readers with larger screens are as fragile -- I have had four 9.7" Kindles and an 8" iRex Iliad and have never had the screen issues I have had with Kobo. It's more to do with shoddy engineering/manufacturing and failure by Kobo to address the issues. BTW, comments like "I never leave mine in the car" are unhelpful at best, with respect to a $200 reader made in 2015. I have taken my Kindle DXGs on a hike to almost 7000m, as well as to the tropics and the Equator, and never had the issues I've had with the Aura HDs (three out of four with screen problems). Here is that other thread: Bad experience with Aura HD And an earlier one started by me: Kobo is the worst.... Last edited by Sonist; 08-12-2015 at 03:39 PM. |

But go ahead, look at the shatter marks on that screen, and tell me that it magically broke itself? Your constant truculence on this issue is really pretty exasperating. Yes, Amazon sometimes replace Kindles the user has smashed or abused. No, this is not a legal or moral requirement, and when other companies choose to do otherwise, they are not terrible awful no-good companies for making that decision. If you want a device that you have a fair chance of getting replaced when you smash it, buy a Kindle. Happy now? Bye. I'm off to take this shattered wine glass to the shops for a warranty replacement. Last edited by meeera; 08-12-2015 at 10:54 PM. |

re damaged screen aura hd
the screen wasnt dropped, its just from moisture
anyway the bad thing is that Kobo 1- has a very buggy site that makes almost imposible to contact them (bad scripts, no good telephone numbers) and 2- they dont want to sell screens for cases like this so I am left only with one solution: throw it away ![]() now, I call this disrespect for client! I have managed to talk to them finally but they just said sorry for the inconvenience! |
