David Nobbs, creator of Reginal Perrin, dies

David Nobbs, the author of numerous books and TV series, including The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin and A Bit of a Do, has died at the age of 80. I have read almost all of his novels and his autobiography, and watched some of his TV series, and will miss his humour.

Thanks for this. I knew him as a TV writer, but I didn't know that he was also a novelist. Are there any of his books that you'd particularly recommend?

My recommendation would be "Second from last in the sack race". The other Henry Pratt books are good, but this is this best IMHO. AMJB |

Looks as if the Kindle option is the Complete Pratt: Second from last in the sack race; Pratt of the Argus and The Cucumber Man. The preview should tell you whether it is worth £9.99 to you!

Also and annoyingly it is no longer the Complete Pratt, as a fourth volume appeared, Pratt a Manger! |

His autobiography I Didn't Get Where I Am Today is interesting. The Henry Pratt series are partly and very loosely autobiographical. The A Bit of a Do TV series is available in book form as Fair Do's and A Bit of a Do. I prefer his later novels, such as Cupid's Dart, It Had to be You, Sex and Other Changes, The Fall and Rise of Gordon Coppinger, and Going Gently to the earlier ones.

Never heard of him before. What genre did he usually write in?
