I have the same issue with the N647. I decided to give this reader to my GF so I was ensuring it was working fine. Turned it on...it did an update to the software and now here I am...with all of you. Irritated.
flyboy320, if you're still around...i'd love to have what you've shared here to flash this SD Card. If it wasnt much trouble i'd like the instruction for this as well. I know Im pushing my luck. Any help would be appreciated

David...any way you could provide guidance on flashing the SD Card with thta image you provided?

Here are the instructions I include when sending the link for the image.

You have to remove the internal micro SD card by removing the back cover off the reader which is just held on by small plastic clips (I just used my fingernail). Then remove the screen by removing the screws on the corners of the screen and also disconnect the battery terminal from the screen as well. Then use a free program called win32diskimager and write the img file to the micro SD card. This will overwrite any books you have on the card, so you might want to back them up first. Also, once you start it up with the new flashed card for the first time, it's best to do a factory reset so you can then put in your own email address since the one on the image file will be someone elses.

Let us know if you need any more help...

Awesome....Thanks FlyBoy. Is there anything I can do to prevent it from updating again? or does it give me the option not to update once I reboot it? I couldn't recall what happened exactly when I did the update previously.

I don't have mine anymore, so all I can think of is keep WiFi off, unless as you say there might be an option to turn updates off.

My Kobo Wifi has stopped working too after the last update!

Can someone please send me the image so I can manually boot it?
And how is it done?

Oddly, my Kobo bricked today with the not being able to read files after having last updated about 3 weeks ago, wherein it was working fine until today, and it suddenly said it had updated and none of my books were seeable. Could I also please get a copy of the file? Thanks guys
