https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058 I'd try this before rolling back (though I know it's too late in this case). Hope you get it working soon. |

Thanks. It's coming up now....in win 10.....I'll see where things are...
ETA, back up in Win 10 on the laptop (everything is fine here on the desktop...other than I did have an unexpected restart that seemed related to internet access...) Had to reinstall a few applications on the laptop that I'd installed/updated after first installation of win 10, but I think I'm back where I was....the Windows Update is checking for updates and reporting that none are available....i.e. all is up to date. I did have it check for updates before reinstalling and so I'm thinking it may have downloaded the Windows 10 patch KB 3081424 but I'm not sure how to check of know for sure. BTW for anyone interested is this: http://www.infoworld.com/article/296...o-install.html I'm just going to leave it alone and proceed. Now back to my desktop crash...more for anyone reading than anything else....my internet connection dropped (wireless - comcast) and I ran the troubleshooter (this happens, Comcast drops or goes out or whatever and I have to restart the wireless adapter). The desktop crashed while this was in progress. The restarted with the heart-stopping message "Missing Operating System" -- I've seen this before on this machine on a few rare occasions. I did the three-finger salute (ctrl-alt-del) and it restarted and all seems fine since. Good Luck Everyone! Last edited by kennyc; 08-07-2015 at 09:23 AM. |

After I installed 10 on my work computer, I noticed that all of my programs all had my fax machine set as the default printer. Did anyone else run into this?

Getting new programs 'Network access' was always a pain I was trying to get a striped RAID running on XP. Norton shut down my A/V with a recent PAID Subscription. The license clearly stated 'Single system'. No mention on how many tries on that system. They would not reinstate. ![]() Yellow boxes WILL NO Longer be purchased in my house. I am not adverse to paying for A/V (or other reasonably priced tools). The problem (IMHO) is the paid versions are all BLOATED with extra stuff. |

Wifi here as well.
It's not as if the actual upgrade process involves having an internet connection. The files needed download in the background. When the Get Windows 10 app has everything it needs to proceed, then the upgrade process can begin. |

I'm actually very tempted to upgrade my W7 acer laptop now I've got my Surface as I really like W10. Before I risk it I know I need to back up but what else do I need to do?
Can I use the same usb I created to upgrade my Surface from 8.1? I've found a page on ACER that has 8 driver updates for my PC when upgrading from W7 to 8.1, do I just download them all and save them on a usb key in case I need them? I know one of them matches my Wireless LAN as i've run Acers detection program. Nothing else seems to match but i just don't know about this stuff. If it all goes wrong hoe easy is it to roll back? |
