K4 Mac or PC Books downloading as azw

I recently purchased a new laptop (lenova yoga 3).

I installed Kindle for PC on the new laptop so that I could move new books into Calibre.

I noticed that the format Amazon is sending to the pc is AZW - not mobi or AZW3. I also noticed that my archived downloaded files are also being stored as AZW - at least, that is the file extension I see in the folder.

The good news is that the files already in Calibre and converted are still showing as AZW3 but any new book I'm trying to add and convert gets the DRM error message from Calibre. I don't know if that's because the file extension is AZW or because I need to update something in Calibre with the new laptop. But I wanted to try and figure out the file extension problem first before tackling the conversion problem.

So is there a setting somewhere in my laptop that I need to look at or in the Kindle for PC app that will allow the books to download in a recognized format?

Any help would be appreciated...

I could be speaking out of turn here but Calibre will show a DRM error message. 'Apprentice Alf'

Yes, I know I need to visit Alf if there is a DRM/conversion problem. At this point, I don't know if the problem is the file extension (something in my computer) or with the DRM tools.

Apologies I did not realise that. All my files sent from Amazon to KindleforPC show up in Calibre as AZW3 files & in the folders in my computer they appear as AZW3 files too.

Most of my ebooks for Amazon to my kindle for pc are azw3 but I do get a few that show up as mobi

All files get downloaded to K4PC with a ".AZW" extension. When you import books to Calibre, the extension only gets changed from "AWZ" to "Mobi" or "AZW3" when the book has been processed by Alf's tools. It sounds as though you need to reinstall the tools.

Thanks... that's what I was afraid of.... a task I can do but not one I necessarily feel confident I'm doing right as I'm doing it.
