I use the smallest font size, but with the biggest line spacing option. This is something I recently discovered and really enjoy. In all the years I've used a Kindlle, I never even played with the line spacing options. I stuck with the smallest one. But on the Kobo H20 I used the equivalent of Kindle's biggest setting because of the larger screen, and it seemed natural. I figured let me try it on the Kindle! I read comfortably with the smallest font, so it works out well. My natural vision is shot, with near sightedness and astigmatism. I use monovision contacts.

I usually use size 5 (my eyes are getting really old) and Palatino on my Voyage, Caecilia (or Palatino in good lighting conditions) on my Paperwhite 2. I can read size 4 or maybe even 3 on the Voyage, but the joy of an ebook reader consists in a larger font size (and bigger line spacing) for me. So why should I use the small font sizes like in paperbacks, which I find tiring?
I even sometimes used size 6 in bad lighting conditions (or without my reading glasses) when I still had my Kindle Keyboard. |

For a book that hasn't messed with the sizes, I usually read at 3 on a PW2 using Palatino.
I think I would find the screen pretty cramped if the font size was up at size and above. I'd want a bigger physical screen to accomodate more text in that case. |

Same here. Nearsighted with astigmatism. My left eye is pretty bad (- 1.25 SPH, - 1.75 CYL). How you manage with the smallest font is beyond me. I love me some of that size 6. My eyes don't get tired from that.

We're grateful for all the replies so far Keep the votes coming, it's actually really surprised me. I thought most people would be mainly on the same couple of font sizes.
And to the people who are reading it on Size 1 you are either witches or synths (which won't make sense unless you are watching 'Humans' on UK tv at the moment) Nan has it on Paladino, it seems clearer to her (than the others) there isn't much choice though. Someone mentioned sideloading more fonts on 'some models' is it possible on this one? Kindle e-ink 2014 model 7th generation (not the paperwhite) the basic kindle. I'm guessing the answer to my next question is no, but is there a way to know accurately what the battery level is? The battery symbol is tiny & I was surprised there weren't %'s on it. Other than that she's saying she likes it a lot except that she wished she'd got "the one with the wee light...." for night reading. |

Just look at my avatar
![]() As for fonts, you need a jailbroken device to install the font hack, so on current devices (fw>=5.6.0) you need to jailbreak over the serial port. Not for the faint of heart. Another hack puts an overlay with the battery indicator in percentages. ![]() |

Battery size is more of an aesthetic thing
![]() ![]() Fonts are something that does matter to many people though. I wouldn't suggest using the serial port if it didn't have one ![]() The jailbreak merely installs the MobileRead signing certificate for additional software updates hosted here, it does not replace the OS. The serial port is hidden underneath the casing. ![]() |

Just try explaining to her that she should charge it whenever she thinks it *might* have gone to halfway, but otherwise not to worry.
Halfway is easy to distinguish? I think?? Best I can do. ![]() |

Of course, I don't know if you feel comfortable editing your books to fix problems -- not everyone is. But it is the only way to solve such a problem. |

3rd Generation Paperwhite, I usually use 4. And if the formatting of a book is larger or smaller by default, then I move the number to make THAT book LOOK like 4 in a standard formatted book.
Also, the font that you use can make a difference. I prefer Bookerly or Caecilia. |
