Once it is opened it is no longer classed as new. You are not entitled to a refund on a non faulty opened item. They can not resell it as new in the UK, because once it is opened or used by a customer it becomes legally a secondhand item.

If the light is too bright, just lower it. Problem solved. Your nan's friend probably showed her the light at a high level. All front lit Readers (that I know of) go from not bright enough to too bright with just right someplace in between.

Amazon have a returns policy which is much more generous than the law requires. Believe me, you can return a Kindle after it's been opened and used: I've done so myself.

Me too. Ring customer services to place the order if you want to be sure but they will tell you you can too.

I suspect the "We reserve the right to refuse returns" clause is there to prevent people from (for example) buying a camera, using it on their summer holiday, and then returning it in obviously "well-used" condition. Return a product in "as new" state and there's never (in my experience, at least) any problem, as long as you don't make a habit of buying big-ticket items and then returning them (for which behaviour Amazon can, and do, close people's accounts). Genuine and occasional returns, though, Amazon are great for.

I've settled on the Paperwhite 3. Thanks to everyone for your input it's appreciated.
Are the dimensions of the Paperwhite 3 identical to the Paperwhite 2? For case purposes? A close fitting hard backed shell case. P.S. A very special thank you to the person who suggested we didn't value our grandmother if we bought her the less expensive model |

Yes, all PW models have the same physical dimensions. All PW cases fit any PW model.

The supervisor put me on hold and when she came on she said, "I've been checking and you're on your last day. I have already sent you shipping labels. If you can get it into the hands of a shipping agent today, you're good to go." Bingo. UPS is only a couple of blocks away, I had the box from my PW2, and I ran, not too fact, I'm old, to the UPS office. The door was locked. The manager saw me, opened the door, I explained the problem, and he spent fifteen minutes getting my package all ready. Then he smiled, handed me a form, and said, "You package is now in our hands." Amazon Kindle is, in my opinion, great when it comes to customer service. |

For reading in bed, I usually start with about 1/4 of the light bars, and turn it down from there. The longer I am reading, the dimmer it gets as my eyes adjust to the dark. I use the PW, and love it.

Does anyone know of an amber/yellow colored screen protector for the paperwhite? I'd really like to reduce blue light at night while reading but haven't found anything for sale other than some sketchy "low blue light" filters that don't appear to do anything.

If all else fails you could make one yourself from a piece of "colour gel" - the colour filters used for theatrical lighting.
EDIT: ... although I don't know if the touchscreen would work through. Probably not, so not a good idea. Last edited by HarryT; 09-13-2015 at 04:37 PM. |

Not sure. I think the touch screen works through plastic bags, maybe that would work. Would rather just buy something properly sized though.
You'd think there would be a small market for something like this. Beats the pants off wearing blue-blocking amber sunglasses. |
