One of the major pain's was I could not at startup get into my BIOS pressing F2, did a web search and tried several things and finally was able to F2 into BIOS.

Then the next pain was the system did not recognize my recovery disk at first. (Do plan to study and understand the BIOS boot options more after this) Finally got to boot into my recovery disk and now 3/4 into restoring the system!

Be careful with classic shell ! I am convinced that my messing with it caused the problem, the desktop went poof! And rebooting did nothing so a restore by ISO image was called for!

Users beware using this shell, tho it maybe fine and I just shot myself in the foot by mistake, whatever it was!

Will say again, win10 changes access to BIOS that holds even when cold booting!

This concerns me far more than the privacy issues.

I do not trust Microsoft backup anything!

I use Macrium Reflect free addition, it works very well and is simple to use!

Have been bitten in the neither region's using Windows backup way too many times to trust it.

All I can say is I've used Classic Shell 4.2.3 beta with Win 10 for two days now and no crashing. I have a Lenovo laptop.

One thing (somewhat like google) is that if you disable the location/privacy items the Cortana assistant will not function. That's okay with me.
I changed the following settings:

Windows Update/Advanced Options/Chose how updates are delivered. Sharing updates with other PC's is NOW TURNED OFF plus I have set it to ask me to restart to load updates.

Privacy/Location is only on for weather and maps

Privacy/General advertising ID is off as its sending Microsoft Information on how I type

Privacy/Feedback and Diagnostics Microsoft can ask me once a week for Feedback and I only send Basic Information to them not Full.

Network and Internet/Wifi/Wifi settings turned off connect to hotspots and networks shared by my friends as it sends my data too.

XBOX Settings changed here to BLOCK for everything https://account.xbox.com/en-GB/Settings

I hope this helps

Thanks for this, I'm having trouble with Cortana (when I've tried it) so I'll check if that's why.

The do have long history of success/failure/success/failure in their release history.

Perhaps by skipping Windows 9 they can break the cycle...and have two failures in a row!

OK, after wading through pages of arguments about skipping Win9 and privacy issues, I didn't see a single post about battery life.

After upgrading my Surface Pro to Win10 and embarking on a marathon reading session on Saturday my battery was dead in FOUR HOURS, and the machine was running noticeably warmer than usual. After rebooting several times, it seems to have cooled off a bit so the issue might be moot, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed either reduced battery life or their machine running hotter.

It's still there, left top menu choice in backup/restore. Tho to keep being bugged go to task manager to turn off the automatic backup scheduler.

Win10 first time seems to instantly want to do a backup when the screen is opened.

Yes, the Start Menu is easy to use and in my view is a major improvement over that in Windows 7.

As far as using "Use Start Full Screen" instead is concerned it probably gets down to how many Tiles one has. For us it is useful that "Full Screen" has far more real estate than non Full Screen, especially if one has some non small tiles (for ease of identification) so the need to scroll is far less.

Also, for us, that is even more so if one likes the Groups of tiles one sets up with the equivalent of "whitespace" around them for clearer grouping.

My two updates continued to update / run background processes for several hours before it had completely finished (As an example when I went to the settings the search didn't work until at least an hour after the install looked completed), so there is a good chance that it is a one off to do with setting up the tablet.
