Thanks. Great job following up on Little.Egret's great find.

It looks like D and P Gramp's soup book has not been Kindlized. I hope that there is a Kindle version to come out on it, soon, too.

I love the paintings on the covers. I didn't examine them closely, but it looks like they come from the era before printing of photography was possible or commonplace in books, and publishers published beautiful watercolors like these in books instead. A quick spot check of the previews didn't turn up any of those in the text, but there are some quaint old line drawings there that add a lot of visual interest.

Interesting . . . . You Aussies have a lot of strange critters (hillbilly for "creatures") and critters that do a lot of strange things. I don't think that our possums (short for "opossums") climb on houses. I think that they're ground dwellers.

People outside of the United States might not understand what hillbillies are or the whole premise of the Beverly Hillbillies show, but maybe the cookbook would help thin the population of your possums.

Living in the deep South (southeastern U.S.) most of my life, I'm sure that I've known people who have eaten possums. I wouldn't do it, myself. Of course, I may have been served some in somebody's house somewhere and been told that it was "chicken."

Now 79% Off--A Very Highly Rated Book on Making Ice Cream Cakes!

I never have "gotten into" making ice cream desserts (eating them is a different matter. ha.). However, perhaps some of you have. If so, this looks like a book that you would really put to use.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream Desserts. By Jeni Britton Bauer. Rated 4.8 stars, from 36 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $23.95; digital list price $11.99; Kindle price now $2.51. Artisan, publisher. 224 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Jenis-Splendid...Cream+Desserts.

Book Description
In Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream Desserts, ice creams deliciously melt into hot brown Bettys, berry cobblers, sweet empanadas, and corn fritters. Her one-of-a-kind cakes and cookies are not only served with ice cream, they get crumbled on top and incorporated into the ice cream base itself.

Sundae combinations dazzle with bold and inspired sauces, such as Whiskey Caramel and Honey Spiked with Chilies. And Jeni’s crunchy “gravels” (crumbly sundae toppings)—such as Salty Graham Gravel and Everything Bagel Gravel—are unlike toppings anyone has ever seen before.

Store-bought ice cream can be used for all the desserts in the book, but it will be hard to resist Jeni’s breakthrough recipes for dairy-free ice cream, frozen custard, and soft-serve. Thirty brand-new flavors, including Cumin & Honey Butterscotch and Extra-Strength Root Beer Ice Cream, attest to the magic of this unique and alluring collection.

I noticed that there weren't any reviews for the book yet. I checked the author's, Julie Hatfield's, other books at Amazon, though, and they were generally very highly rated. Looks like another one of your usual great finds, Little.Egret. Thanks!

Now I've got to go find a soup cookbook so that I can make some of the recipes. hahaha

I did see there were lots but didn't bother to check ratings since the recipes look sensible.

I keep a couple of cans of Campbell's Chicken soup with white wine in the cupboard.

Just for fun, I checked GoodReads and, surprisingly, they didn't have any ratings for the book, yet, either. Then, I noticed that the book was published in 2015. That would explain it.

The soup cookbook quip was an attempt at humor. You had a quote (from the book?) that said, "The only thing you won't find in this book is actual soup recipes." Actually, the last time that I tried to make soup resulted in a pretty good soup. Like you, I would use a canned soup anyway.

Interestingly, although I worked for the dry grocery business in the not-too-distant past, and became familiar with U.S. soup products, I never saw a canned soup of any kind from any manufacturer with white wine or any other alcoholic product. But Americans are less comfortable about the whole alcohol thing than people in the U.K. and most, if not all, other of the developed countries of the world--maybe that has something to do with it.

But not or no longer on the Campbell's web site (though I saw a recipe with white wine) nor on their UK site.

Here high end soups might also have sherry.
