It works fine on the second reinstall. The same thing happened back when I upgraded from Vista to 7 and from 8 to 8.1. I'm also fed up with Symantec. It's an excellent anti-virus, but Norton makes every upgrade much more difficult. Although I expected it to not work on the first install based on past experience, it was really annoying to be right. How have they not fixed these recurring glitches?

Agreed and I think I'm just going to stick with Windows Defender for now on Win 10.

I wasn't complaining about the advertisement, I was complaining about the ad using my current location to tailor the ad; I thought when I was setting up Windows 10 I disabled all the "sharing" stuff.

And let the questions begin...

Is there a way I can go straight to the login window when starting the computer; it currently shows a background image (and the date) and I have to click before the login screen appears.

Thanks.

Norton software has been plaguing computers with issues since shortly after Peter Norton sold it. It's a bloated resource hogging mess that installs so poorly they had to create the tool you cite to remove it. What's truly frightening is they at one point a while back (don't know if they still do), sold a general uninstall tool for Windows. Now who would buy an uninstall tool from a company whose flagship program can't even uninstall itself without extra tools? I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I can't believe this company is even still around. I can't count the number of machines that got a new lease on life just by uninstalling Norton.

I just upgraded my work office computer to Win 10 and had no problems with Norton. It works fine with Win 10. Also I got several notices weeks ago from Norton, concerning their product and Win 10.

There is no Adblock for Edge. I had a look and it doesn't exist and there's currently no plans for such.

Edge won't support any plugins until the October - November timeframe when we get the big fall update (Threshold 2). Then the plugins will be very code similar to Chrome (JavaScript) making porting them simple so hopefully most developers will port their plugins. That's Microsoft's plan anyway.

I have been fighting intermittent problems with an internal (3rd party) Card reader that worked well in W7 and Mint17.2

The first insert, might give me a drive letter but NOT the cards label

If I eject and reinsert, I now see the card Label and contents.

anyone else

YouTube does the same thing, but there's an option to not use one's location for the Ads/recommendations.

However, you need to check how your windows update is being done. Click notification icon on the tray bar; select "all settings";
click on "update & security, windows update, recovery, backup"; select "advanced options"; select "choose how updates are delivered". Then get shocked!!! on what the default is!

Suggest one do the turn off of "updates from more than one place". You can leave the get/send updates to the PCs on your local network if you feel safe. BUT do turn off the get/send updates to PCs on the internet!

I turned off everything as it is a nice way to get viruses/trojans/etc even from m$ or more likely, other PCs on the internet.

Spotted this on the win10 newsgroup & something I wouldn't think of doing/checking; VERY SNEAKY like a torrant based file xfers.

Yep, I noticed the carte-blanche install updates automatically etc. etc. and immediately changed that...

Yeah that sucks.....I don't have an answer...hopefully someone does...

Next question -- I posted in the windows section -- but what about Adobe Digital Editions in/under Win 10

I'd like to know about any gotchas before I upgrade my desktop where I have ADE installed. Please answer in the other thread if you could:

Do a google search "lock screen disable" & the 1st 2 should list the howtos for win8.

I did the group policy & it didn't work; probably a bug in win10. Will try the reg method after dinner.

edit: yup, the direct/indirect reg edit works; just download the reg patch, double-click, yes to run & the lock screen is gone. boot direct to logon screen.
