And then, after a year, there was a knock on my door. A sleek black limousine sat on the curb in front of my house. A driver stood in front of me, and he spoke six words: "It's time to pay your debt."

I did.

It turns out $120,000 doesn't come free.

This is something I've never seen before--I have a problem with the text in It Happened at the Fair by Deeanne Gist. I've been listening to the audiobook from the library and started to read the ebook where I left off. All over the place there are words in italics with vowels missing, like they were scanning errors that never got corrected. It happens frequently enough that it takes you out of the story. My copy is from Kobo and I checked the sample from the Kindle store as well--sure enough, same errors. My first question is if I could use some kind of spell check to correct the file in Calibre? Then, whether I've been able to correct the errors or not should I contact the author, the publisher, or both?

update--I figured out how to use the spell check, the only problem is that I don't always know what the misspelled work should be! (for example--bbbedddr?)

Thanks--I figured out that I could check the context of the word as I was editing so I left that section alone. Another complicating factor is that the hero is going deaf and there are some places where dialogue is written as he might be mishearing it (like "rrrrr" instead of "better").

It took a while to correct all the misspellings and remove the tags that identified them. Hard to believe the publisher wouldn't fix this for such a big-name author! I posted on their Facebook because I didn't find contact info other than for submissions.

A little Googling shows that it's meant to be that way.
