I went to the control panel device manager and the driver was flagged. I uninstalled it and it promptly reverted to the Win8.1 driver. All is well now. So far. |

Oh, that is a common one. It is often associated with iTunes. (Google it.) (Edit: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...1-7ed60c4797b8) All it means is the updater can't connect to the servers because something is usurping the authentication. It usually goes away eventually. You have two choices: run the media app from the link above or keep on waiting and cussing. (MS never promised everybody would get it today. The download link is for those of us unwilling to wait our turn like good little children. Which I'm not. ![]() Last edited by fjtorres; 07-29-2015 at 10:54 PM. |

Okay.
I just saw all I need to know: Win10 gives me a modern PC Tablet that acts like a Proper TabletPC™ and not an oversize cellphone. The rest I can adapt to as needed. ![]() |

International Standards Organization, which has thousands of standards.
ISO 9660 happens to be a standard for a computer file system on compact disc. About the time typical hard disks became much larger than compact disc capacity, it became common to save bit for bit raw contents of of compact discs as a single file, often with the file name extension iso. Some operating systems can mount such a so-called "disk image" as a virtual disk drive. If such a file is written directly to a writable compact disk, that disk is mountable on anything that can mount a compact disc. A common error is to copy the file to a writable compact disc, wich results in a cd with that single file on it as a file (provided it fits), which is not the same thing. Audio CDs use a different data organization, they can not be mounted on a computer. |

I disabled the nag about windows 10 I'm not bothered about upgrading (on this PC) I've things just how I like them at the minute.
I have been looking at the reddit tech support sub just out of curiosity and it's basically a list of Windows 10 issues at the minute of course you would expect that today but I'm still curious what issues pop up. I think it's a smart move to wait a few months and then decide, I doubt I'll upgrade in truth. |

I installed W10 on a virtual machine yesterday (been wanting to create a fresh one for some time, I figured the arrival of Visual Studio 2015 and Windows 10 was as good a time as I'll ever get).
Downloaded an ISO file, created a virtual machine in VirtualBox and started installing. I must say, the installation went rather smooth. One thing bugged me though, I couldn't give my PC a real name from installation, I had to do that afterwards. Annoyances: I want to get rid of that notification icon. I don't care for it at all. Can I remove it? The same with that search button next to the start menu button. I don't want white title bars. I want them to use the theme colour! All very nice that a developer can set it, but let me overrule it. I did find a theme (on the internet, why is it not added by default?) so I could get rid of those white bars at least. Which gets me to my third annoyance, why can't I pick any colour I want? I want red, but not the bright red the theme chooser lets me pick... That's how far I got yesterday, just tweaking my fresh install so I could use it with the least annoyances... I will have to get all annoyances to a bearable level before I even think about upgrading my PC itself (beside the fact that I won't be able to do an upgrade so reinstalling takes a lot of time...) |

Same here. My main laptop is 6 years old, so I plan to buy a new one with Windows 10.

Was going to wait, but with all the family/friends asking about it I figured I better upgrade right away so I can do computer support.
![]() Strangely it gave me Win 10 Pro. I was expecting Home as this laptop came with Win 7 Home and was most recently running Win 8.1 Home. ![]() |

I've been watching this for a while, reading in here and other places, trying to decide if this "free" upgrade is worthwhile or not. Have a desktop running 8.1, desktop running 7 and 2 laptops running 7. They work. As an old fart, I view computers as tools. In my world, XP was by far the most productive workspace I've used. SO, can someone clarify once and for all a few things:
1. Is it FER REAL, ABSOLUTELY FREE - NOW AND FOREVER? Or will there suddenly be some *&^%$# subscription model like Adobe has gone to? Or some OTHER hidden method for the scumbags to start extracting cash in a day/week/month/year? 2. WILL IT BE FASTER? NOT faster texting or time wasting, but ON THE SAME BOX WITH THE SAME HARDWARE, will Windows 10 run Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or other actual productivity TOOLS measurably FASTER? 3. Can someone provide a succinct summary of the pitfalls of going to 10? How much background information will be disseminated? How much information of ANY kind will be siphoned from the computer to Microsoft or anyone else by Windows 10? 4. Will it be MORE productive? Not "productive" for my 12-year-old grandson who wants to tweet and facebook and use the crap in 8.1, but productive for someone who actually has WORK to do and needs their tools to be accessible, functional, and fast. For example, it took WAY too long to get rid of as much of the 8.1 drivel as possible so it was useful, and WAY too many 3rd party tools to replace the built-in interface. Am I going to have spend ANOTHER week to make 10 useful? I have no problem going from 7 or 8.1 to 10, but I DO NOT want to spend hours a day for the next month chasing problems on my wife's laptop so she can skype with her sisters... |
