The Jetbook may be using CoolReader, which I think is also the default on the Hanlin. In additon to FB2, it supports RTF, HTML (single file?) and ePub at least. The http://coolreader.org site seems to be down, but see CoolReader Engine.

Well, I will give it a try. It would be kind of weird for it not to support HTML at all, since fb2 is an xml format and so basically it has html imbedded into it.

This leaves me with two possible approaches, both cluges, but both should solve the problem.
I have fixed the html2fb2.pl script so the Special Characters are working now. If you are interested, I can send it to you.

I have a Jetbook, that I bought a few months ago. So is the ability to read FB2 an update? I am sure that when I bought mine FB2 was not listed as an option. Any ideas? I looked on their site and I did not see anything indicating that an update was available.

Thanks,

Ellen

I think the reason that fictionbook was not mentioned very prominently is because its not a very common format in the English Speaking world; now if you want to read Russian books, there are tons in fictionbook .

Overall, I found that converting to html2pdf to be a good solution; pdf page turns are a little slow (maybe 3/4 of a second) but since the page remains readable until it is changed, it is not hard to time the page turn so that an easy reading flow is maintained .

I downloaded the update, but I am having problems getting it to work. I followed the driections on the download site but nothing happens. I wonder if the files are corrupted or if I am using too large of a SD card (2gb). Has anyone here updated their Jetbook? Since this device doesn't have its own section here in the forum I didn't know where else to post this question. Thanks.

Sorry,

I just tried the update using a lower capacity (256mb) SD card and now it is working. Hope this will help anyone that had the same problem.

Ellen,
Just curious, were you able to do anything with the larger SD card? I had issues when I reached the point of restoring the factory defaults with the larger card, but was able to actually do the flash upgrade. I might have to try it with the smaller SD card.

Yes Bill. I found that the upgrade would not work with my 2gb card. I can use large cards for storing book of course, but when it came to the upgrade only the smaller card worked. I got the idea cause the Bebook updates say to use a 1gb card or smaller. I dont why. Anyway I am keeping my little 256 card in a safe place to use for updates. I was surprised that I still had such a small card.

1GB and smaller cards are compatible with the older MMC format. At two Gig the block size was changed. This is why, as the bootstrap ROM is not very sophisticated and expects a single block size and FAT file system.

SDHC card also use a FAT system (FAT or FAT32).

The standard was first changed to allow up to 4G MMC cards (4 bits was used for specifying the block size and the mazimum size is 2048 compared to 512 for the oldest standard).

Actually the standard for SDHC is only FAT32, Not FAT as the original was called, later modified to FAT12 and then FAT16 but commonly referred to as FAT. There is now a new standard for MMC for 4 Gig but I don't know if any were every built for retail sale. MMC is now out of business and turned over all their assets.

I meant SD cards based on MMC (or non-SDHC-cards). And I was thinking about the following from wikipedia:
Quote:
In older 1.x implementations the standard capacity block was exactly 512 bytes. This gives 4096 x 512 x 512 = 1 gigabyte of storage memory. A later revision of the 1.x standard allowed a 4-bit field to indicate 1024 or 2048 bytes per block instead, yielding more than 1 gigabyte of memory storage. Devices designed before this change may incorrectly identify such cards, usually by misidentifying a card with lower capacity than is the case by assuming 512 bytes per block rather than 1024 or 2048.
Using 2048 you get a maximum size of 4G and not 2G.
