There was no VISA transaction. I did receive a credit in the account. I did have to delete out my credit card info as I don''t like to store it.

Is this the one where you get a code for spending x and a different code for spending y?

If so, that is a new promo they are doing and it has nothing to do with the contests.

I think it is a reasonable speculation on zelda's part. This could well be a promotion that Kobo is trying that will replace the contest.

Face it, the contest has broken the last few times they've tried it. Moreover, it's been grossly abused, even as they adjusted the odds way downward. I've said it before; Kobo can't keep giving away the store forever.

Trying to predict what Kobo is doing or thinking has a low level of certainty, because Kobo is both incompetent and nuts. But to say that a new promotion has nothing to do with the contest (as in replacing it) is impossible to know, until and unless a new contest starts.

I wouldn't be at all surprised, myself.

Any spec is reasonable where kobo is concerned, however, if it is the promo I'm thinking of, it's an author sponsored promo--the contests are NOT author sponsored so they are not likely the same thing. The author sponsored contests change "features" pretty frequently, meaning they try new things about every other month. Some stay the same. I don't know if the same dept even runs the author sponsored contests versus the contest ones, but I do know they aren't connected.

The really horrid thing about it is that you have to actually spend money before you can even see the list of "selected titles" the discount can be used on.

If this kind of thing is going to replace the usual contest I don't think I'll be be buying many more Kobo books.

sorry this is discount related but I can't access the Kobo store from Internet Explorer anymore. Had to get my computer wiped due to viruses and reloaded and since then when I try to click on any Kobo links I get "We're sorry, but your browser is not supported. Please try again using one of these. Chrome 11+, Safari 5+ or Firefox". Anyone seen this before or have any ideas on how/if I can use IE again?

What version of IE? There were some security issues with a couple of the past versions so I think some places stopped supporting it. But I use FF so I don't know.

The spend to save offer would be ok if the percentage off your earned could be used on the book of your choice. The minute they offer discounts on only a "selected" list of books, they lose me. I think only once in the several years I've been buying kobo, has there been a book on a "selected" list for a promo or discount that I actually wanted.

My email says spend $20 for 30% ($50 for 45%) off your next book from a select list. Only applies to those in Canada and US.

Doesn't appeal to me.

Yep, so trivial a discount that it's almost laughable - spend $50 to get 45% off ONE book is pretty useless, especially if it's truly only on a select list. Even with mulit-tabbing, it's not great.

Hopefully they'll continue offering other other random discount offers (e.g. the $10 Visa checkout, the $5 new account, the 90% refer a friend, "come back" codes) in the future - in their own weird random way.

Yeah, I haven't got my credit, either. And I bought a book I wouldn't have bought otherwise.

For $10, it's probably worth contacting customer disservice, but I hate how everything's a battle with Kobo. Once the discounts dry up, they won't see me again. Easier to buy from Amazon and convert.
