Thing is when they adv something anyone & people buy they expect it to be as adv when they get it! No sec min days or weeks later!

It is advertised as coming soon. No reason to expect it when you get the device.

I think everyone impatient for the update are justified. Fully justified.

But others think that we should be more patient and we impatient few find ourselves... marginalized.

Just a little typesetting humor....

Given that the Gutenberg Bible had kerning, ligatures and justification you might say that Kindle owners have waited long enough.

Me? I'll read on my PW3 and my Voyage which are exactly as advertised. I like them so I won't be reading the Gutenberg Bible.

Sorry, that's not what I meant. I have an ereader that uses Adobe's Reader Mobile SDK, so it already has kerning, hyphenation and ligatures.

All in all I still find it somewhat funny to see an electronic gadget sold with a "free OTA update in few weeks" (release announcement) or "coming soon" (today's amazon page) feature. Opens up completely new marketing options, doesn't it? Think about the Amazon Blaze watch which may even show you the time of day after a "coming soon" free OTA update.

I'm not sure if the "enhanced typesetting" amounts to a supported feature of the PW3 (in any legal sense). Being the pinnacle of CS Amazon won't have a problem with reimbursing buyers of the PW3 who can't wait a "few weeks".

The PR hype (booklike reading experience) is a second thing I found funny. Example: this "large font" thingie. I can see the boys and girls at Amazon brainstorming for weeks to get a better rendering of justified, large font size text. And eureka: let's turn of justification above some threshold font size (and put in hyphenation for good measure) is the solution found. Now we have only to wait for them agreeing on the computation method and the exact threshold value - coming soon.

Don't get me wrong. I'm certain that it isn't a trivial task to add the new features in such a way that all things work in the best possible way. If an update comes to the PW1 I will - more likely than not - use it for my device which at the moment is still at FW 5.3.9. (and it is great that Amazon updates "prior-generation" devices with new features).

Wonder who would buy a car Adv as Engine will be inc SOON! Not me ...

So when it Finally gets ALL the Features let me know! By that time there will be another ereader out [by Amazon] Wonder what It will be missing?

I hate to mention the obvious but a car with no engine won't run. My Amazon works great. And neither my PW3 nor my Voyage is missing any parts.

Understanding analogies must be hard

Missing the engines on a car means it wont drive. Just because "engine" is part of "typesetting engine" it is not analog to the car. That would be cpu or something essential. It is more like: A car with the hi-fi coming later.

Methinks some people are treating a valid criticism of Amazon's goof up as a personal affront.

I do not understand how it was Amazon's goof up, when they say right on the description of the PW3 that there will be a new type set engine coming in the future. They never said when just in the future.

By the way to most of us Coming Soon means in the future. When in the future more than likely they do not even know yet.
