The Seige of Petersburg was a series of battles that lasted a little over nine months, in 1864-65. One thing that stands out to me about the Seige of Petersburg is the fact that more soldiers lost their lives in it--some 70,000--than any single battle of the Civil War--Antietam, Shiloh, (Second) Bull Run, Gettysburg, you name it. Yet, those battles are much more famous than the Seige of Petersburg.

Marked down $16.00 from the digital list price of $19.99, making a nice 80% drop (if figured from the print list price, it would be an even greater percentage).

In the "old days" (ha), I suppose that this would be considered a coffee table book, what with it being jam-packed with photographs. I think that it still could be a coffee table book if you turn on your tablet with this ebook loaded, and leave it on the table before company comes. ha.

Ratings are a little hard to come by on this book, but the ones that there are are high ones. And from skimming through the text, I think that I can say that it is a good one. The 250 "new" photographs of World War I easily make it a must-post.

Sounds like a book to keep you on the edge of your seat. If you're interested in a similar one, I recommend Theodore Roosevelt's book Through the Brazilian Wilderness. He recounts the expedition that he was on, after his Presidency, to explore a tributary of the Amazon (later named Rio Roosevelt in his honor). He barely made it out alive. Being published pre-1923, that book is in the public domain in the U.S. and can be gotten free from the Internet Archive and probably other places.
