How about a big ass warning because people complained that the previous warning which was just a change in the header wasn't enough to warn them before they ran out of power while reading? Nothing to do with harm for the battery, everything to do with people that were ticked when they ran out of battery while they were out and about because they hadn't seen the small warning in the header and put it on charge before they left home.

You get three weeks? That's great.

For me it's 6 days max.

I tried to explain this to him.. it has nothing to do with harm for the battery... I stop.. it is just a warning: hey if you go out for a couple of hours, you need to charge me before you go.

Everyone is free to use the warnings,if someone want to charge it at 20% it is perfect, modern Li-Ion have not a real memory effect.
It only is wrong to warn people that they need to charge at that time or they will harm the battery, that is not true.

I don't use any of the extra stuff either. There are only 3 books loaded. No wifi. Sleep after 10 minutes. The big difference is the light which must draw a lot of power from the battery.

Maybe try to reset the device, it must work longer then 6 days, the light almost can't drain so much power.. Sure u can try to put the light to a lower level to see what happens, but that can't be the difference between 6 days and 3 weeks.. Sure that WiFi didn't turns on at the background?

I'd agree with the above. The light shouldn't be draining that much (I think the general consensus is that it has little or no impact on battery life). I'd be looking at warranty replacement if you're only getting 15 hours of actual reading time on it.
My H2O is at around 50% and I can't say how long it was between my last 2 charges (I just charged it a couple of nights ago, so I can't say I can't remember when I last had it on charge ) but it had a lot more than 15 hours reading on it.

I'll try resetting when I figure out how to do it.

I previously used a Sony LED lighted case and a AAA battery (600 mAh) would last about 6 hours. The Glo HD has a 1.5 Ah battery. Of course, I don't know how the two lights compare but, in any case, with the light at 100% I don't think Kobo expects me to get "weeks" of use per charge. I can let the device go almost to zero and see how much longer it lasts. I'm currently at 49%.

Do you have a sleepcover of some sort ? I know - and have experience it - that some of them could drain the battery (even when the device is sleeping) if the magnets are too strong and/or misplaced.

There are some wrong books, can't find the topic anymore but I read about it,that drains a lot of power.
The lights of the Sony cover are much brighter and use a lot more power.
The leds on the Kobo just shine on a white layer that diffuses the light, it really can't be compared.
I had nightshift and read with my second Kobo whole night with light on 100% but the battery bar isn't even changed.
I just wanted to see how much it can visible use, because reading was really difficult with that level.
Between the rounds I put sleep mode to the highest setting and put the power off to never.
I think it was on for 6 hours but battery still displays full.
If you soft reset the device by a paperclip you will loose no information.
Just to be curious,are u on 3.16 firmware ??

FWIW, on my Glo HD first full charge: it went for 27 days, I read about 1500 "pages" (4 books) and it was down to 10%; I did plug it in a couple of times to add books (but the time connect time was small). I read about 3 hours a day, the light is around 25%, WIFI is off, and I use kepubs.

I'm still on 3.15 as I haven't turned on WIFI since purchase.

Of course, it could just be an inaccurate battery indicator. I read a couple of hours last night and it went from 49% to 41% with light around 60%. Today after 1 hour with light off it dropped to 40%.

I'll see how far the Kobo lasts to near zero.

Try cleaning all your books off. I've seen an epub cause battery drain. It wasn't even the book being read...that was on a Sony.

If you see that warning you should charge pronto. In the future you should charge sooner so the warning never comes up.
The minimum charge requirement is hardwired in the battery electronic circuit. Otherwise there would be a lot of warranty claims.

So when you see that warning, it means you have 10% left before the protective electronics kicks in and disconnects the battery to prevent it from discharging it below dangerous level.

You can damage the battery, but only if you let the device discharge to a very low level and then leave it in discharged state for extended period of time [several months], so the charge level slowly dips below what the battery can handle.

So you don't use the conversion part of calibre and then try to send the kepub that is made to the device. (that was what i was doing by mistake)
So you install with plugins the kobotouchextended plugin, you disable the kobotouch plugin, then restart calibre, then highlight the epub you want to send as kepub, choose where you want to place it,just like epubs, and in the background the plugin makes a kepub of it and send that instead of the epub to your device. (and in the options of the extended put off [uncheck], hyphenation.)

If you want to start sending epubs again to the reader, disable the kobotouchextended plugin,re-enable the kobotouch plugin, restart Calibre and then it sends the epubs again.

With this plugin, you don't have kepubs stored in your Calibre system and it doesn't rebuild your existing epubs.
(with thanks to @Davidfor and many others who helped me with this)
I just have gotten around to trying the Kobo Touch Extended Plugin. I did the following
1. Disconnected the GloHD
2. Installed the Kobo Touch Extended Plugin
3. Went to Preferences->... and disabled the Kobo Touch 2.1.7 by David Forrester
4. Closed and re-opened Calibre
5. Connected the GloHD

Calibre did not recognize the device. So, I disconnected the device, went back to Preferences->Plugins->...and disabled "Kobo Reader Device Interface" as well. Closed and Opened Calibre. Reconnected GloHD - still not recognized.

Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

BTW - I also had a battery problem like the one described. Out of the blue the battery started to run down in a few days rather than a few weeks. Deleted a .mobi book that seemed oddly formatted and a couple of other non .kepub books, gave it a good overnight charge - and all seems better today.
