July 2015 - can I hack a brand new PW?

As the title says - I tried a search and couldn't find the question answered anywhere obvious.

If I were to buy a brand new Paperwhite from Amazon UK, in July 2015, could the latest firmware accept the screen saver hack and other alterations?

If not, is there any way to downgrade it to a firm ware would will.

Sorry if this information is available elsewhere.

Thanks for the help

Try the (currently) second from top Sticky thread.
Although prefixed PW-2 it is the same as on a PW-3.
(Which is what I suppose you mean by "new paperwhite" - as in "newest model paperwhite).

So only via the serial port? Hmmmm, I'm not sure my skills are up to that simply to jailbreak it.

Yes, only via the serial port.

Yes, it takes steady hands, those connection points are tiny.
But you will find examples here where people have taped the leads in-place, long enough to run the jail break script.

Which is all you have to do over the serial port, everything else once the device is jail broken is done with software installs.
