cerem0ny,
Great idea. I am creating a Word document with all these fonts and I will print it out. I notice now that Charis Sil and Bookerly look almost exact the same. Charis Sil is a tiny bit more compact. Nice to check the fonts like this. Is printing them the best way to see how they look on the Kindle? I can creat different files with all these fonts, but I only have one kindle and I will not be able to compare them. How do you compare them? |

I actually picked most of them up from the kobo forums here on Mobileread: they have a sticky thread with a summary of fonts to sideload, and infact links on where to download them -thats where I got most of my fonts from. They all look great on my voyage. The links on the Kobo forum I mentioned link to 'modified' versions of the fonts - the Charis I have is in fact modified by a forumer over there - they love there font options there, haha. I am a bit of a font nut thanks to these ereaders, and the fonts I mentioned are the best fonts that are currently available and seem optimised for ereading - I did all the hard work for you! I am as of this moment checking out googles new Literata font - wish me luck lol. Quote:
![]() edit: I've attached a really great zip file that I got from the Kobo forum: it's a collection of fonts that have been modified and optimised for the ereader - all of these look GREAT on my voyage and should provide a great start (if not a great end-all) to having some awesome sideloaded fonts for you... in fact, these are pretty much all of the fonts that I mentioned previously, bar 1 or two... enjoy! edit 2: Literata looks great on my voyage also - add that to the list too! I will be using this font for... AAA blockbuster type novels :P Last edited by cerem0ny; 07-20-2015 at 03:53 AM. |

Printing from computer will give you almost next to nothing information about how it all would look on eInk. What you need to do is removing hintings and adding some little weight with Fontforge, saving as TrueType, and sideloading.
Then test them. If you can't remember how they look, take photos. No other proper way, not really. You can't just download font files and put them to the Kindle, typefaces need to be prepared for the eInk. Here is the one did: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=260978 |

Thanks everyone, so no printing, too bad, looked like a good idea to compare. I downloaded the zip and will create azw3 files with every font and take photo's, a nice thing do to on my holiday when I have some time. I enjoy using the fonts and everyone here has been a great help, this saves so much time, I only need to test them now and select the ones I like most. Thanks again.

I tried the Bookey that is floating around the net and on my H2O, it was way too light unless I used the advanced font controls to add more weight to it. Bookerly is a decent font when it has enough weight to it. The one found on the net is an LCD version.

I have tried all the fonts in the zipfile and I really enjoy Georgia version 1 (the folder inside the zip is called Georgia for Kindle).
I perhaps like this font more than the upcomming Bookerly font for my Kindle. |

cerem0ny, there is a difference in bold capital letters. I prefer the more bold ones from Georgia version 1. I tried all the fonts with one book and this book had two words in bold capital letters in the text, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed any difference like you did.
Linux Libertine was on my list of 4 favourite fonts from this zip file, but I choose Georgia. They fit a tiny bit better for my fantasy books I like to read (in my opinion). I am currently rebuilding some books with this new font and with smaller margins. Thanks everyone for the help. |

Yeah, bookerly is very good. I've got the LCD version sideloaded on my H2O, but it looks brilliant even without adjusting the font weight. It's not my first choice font (too slab-serify for my tastes), but I wouldn't mind reading an entire book with it if it came to that. I think e-reader resolutions have become good enough that they don't strictly need e-ink versions of fonts like they did before.

I am mainly using Bookerly this days too. I have created my own eink version for the Glo, it works perfectly.
But... credit actually goes to Dalton Maag, not to Amazon. |
