Any new steampunk authors?
I like discovering new authors, and in spite of my age and curmudgeonly attitudes, I find I enjoy steampunk novels.
Any new authors out there, that we should keep an eye on? |

I enjoyed The Hanged Man by P.N Elrod but its more Victorian urban fantasy. A psychic and no clockworks or steam although there is a cameo by a dirigible. Has the feel of Newberry and Hobbes or Books and Braun. Future books could go either UF or Steampunk.

Have you read Vermilion by Molly Tanzer?
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/24485148 I thought it was a graphic novel for the longest time because of the cover. Last edited by BenG; 07-21-2015 at 09:08 AM. |

He's been around for a while. Just in case you haven't heard of him: China Miéville. Start with Perdido Street Station.

I like a recent offshoot of steampunk known as "flintlock fantasy":fantasy worlds but with Napoleonic era armaments and trappings.

Has anyone read The Iron Assassin by Ed Greenwood? His background is Forgotten Realms traditional sword and sorcery fantasy. Its in Overdrive (woo woo!) but the Goodreads reviews make me wary.

![]() The Aeronaut's Windlass (The Cinder Spires #1) by Jim Butcher Though Jim Butcher is a very successful writer he is a new steampunk author. Why? Because his very first steampunk novel hasn't yet been released, though it will be released in hardback, paperback, ebook and audio CD next Tuesday, September 29th!

I like the Girl Genius novels by Phil and Kaja Foglio, based on their very popular graphic stories available online and in print. Start reading the novels with Agatha H and the Airship City.

The Mechanical by Ian Tregillis.
Not quite steampunk, but close. |

The blurb for that is in first person is the book as well?
Trudi Canavan's Thief's Magic has magic driven clockwork like mechanics but I'm only on chapter 3 so can't say how it'll fall yet. Fantasy and not the pulp adventure sort of feel I lump in with steampunk. Been waiting for that Butcher book since it was announced. Sanderson's next novel is out in mid-Oct and is set in an early industrial future of his Mistborn world. High adventure, motorcars, guns, no clockworks so the setting may fall into more of the flintlock fantasy category.
