@Alastair_S: I see increased power drain on my Mini, probably due to the sleep cover, which cannot be disabled anymore....

But i can't see why the cover should drain power, even when you can't disable it,the normal sleep timer still works. The sleepcover doesn't override the normal sleep settings. |

Yes, my Touch's battery seems to be dropping faster than before. But I notice 3.16 seems to force a lot more screen rewrites, presumably to deal with the ghosting, so I figured that was probably why.

It's time for FW 3.17.0 that fixes each and every problem that cannot possibly be sold as a "feature"

On that note though, are we expecting a 3.17 (or later) update anytime soon? 3.16 was only officially for a rather small selection of devices, while it provided changes which extend beyond bringing the Touch up to date with how the other devices look and feel.
Yes I know 3.16 can be loaded to more devices just wondering if anyone has heard rumblings of an official update for the rest of the Kobo line not officially covered in 3.16 |

Kobo never announce the release of firmware beforehand. I don't think anyone has an idea of when the next one will be out or what is in it.

When I put the reader to sleep the battery was at 50% in the morning the battery was dead. Something isn't going sleep, I'm going to enable the shutdown option see if that helps. |

Occasionally I notice that the sleep cover doesn't put the reader to sleep, or at least doesn't turn out the light on the reader. That's why I really hate that they now have the light go out a few seconds after you close the cover instead of right away, so I end up having to keep peeking through a slit in the cover to watch that the light does go out.
I've usually caught it though at least within a few hours so never had any significant battery drain, but it's possible that's the cause. The light staying on randomly happens when I plug my reader into my PC to charge as well, which is really annoying when it's at night. This has happened on my Glos and the new Glo HD. |

But even if this timer is not set,I can't explain why it should has such a drain as some people reports, if battery life is 2 months with reading one or two hours a day, it can't be empty if it is 8 hours on, that is only 4 or 8 days reading, and most power is consumed by turning pages, even if the cover doesn't turn it off,and the auto sleep timer is not set,you don't read and don't turn pages so the power must be minimum.. Both my 2 Glo HD's have normal battery power with 3.16 and nothing is draining it. Last edited by Nick_1964; 07-18-2015 at 05:10 PM. |

I usually keep that timer at 30 minutes, but changed it to 5 minutes for awhile. I'll have to try and wait out the light to see if it does shut off after 5 minutes, or if it's some quirk where the light just stays on when the reader is actually asleep (not even sure if that's possible, but it's just so random when the light stays on).

My old cover of my normal Glo, sometimes doesn't put it to sleep, it looks like the screen glass is a bit thicker and doesn't turn it off, the magnet in the original cover is more powerful. It does work when you positioned it tight at the closing magnet, if it is closed when the flap/lid is to much on the right side and stick a few mm over it, it doesn't activate the sleep mechanism, where it works perfect on the old normal Glo. So when I close the cover I slightly move the lid a little bit to the left and then it works perfectly. |

Flat round magnets used in covers to turn off reader when cover is closed can be different diameters. Larger diameter magnet will turn off reader when cover hinge is miss aligned for slightly higher cost. They use magnet with large enough diameter to reliably turn off reader when cover is new but might not as hinge is flexed for months allowing greater miss alignment.

I had 2 normal Glo readers and my Greek one, all 3 works perfectly with the normal Glo but they don't with the Glo HD, so either the magnetic switch inside is moved slightly, or the screen is thicker so the magnets in the cover must be stronger. |
