been using bang (!), crunch (#), and snail (@) to force things to the top of ordered lists since button up boots - well since OS/8, at least. It's probably baked into my DNA

Inside of zip archives? I understand in your normal filesystem.

Yep - there too, comic covers in a cbz/r are named !cover.

As I said any ordered list - eg a text file, spreadsheet, file names in a file browser.

Not suggesting Sigil must conform - just surprised that a '!' character should cause problems, given its wide-spread use - well me and the OP. I'll stick an OT flag on the post.

Well in all fairness, it only causes problems in rare, specific--and now acknowledged as buggy--situations (where Sigil is concerned).
