Going under the radar, Apple quietly released a new iPod touch today.

I was excited until I saw it still has a 4" display. If they had bumped it to 4.7" or 5.5" (i.e., iPhone 6 size), that would have caught my attention. As it is ... meh.

Kinda sad they didn't bump the size of the others though, or the UI of the Nano.

You can buy an iPhone if you want big size gadgets. Keeping the 4" display is providing customers more choices. Good job! Apple.

Most of the people who will be getting these are of a smaller nature, and they would not have hit those price points (which are actually almost reasonable and less than I paid for my 32GB one a few years back).

I would have liked to see TouchID on these, but again that probably costs them a few cents, and maybe it doesn't work so well with children whose fingertips are growing. And the headphone jack remains misplaced on the bottom instead of the top (no doubt to simplify assembly etc.), but that's what bluetooth is for.

Still, pretty impressive specs compared to previous model (though not quite up to iPhone specs), and given declining sales, we probably won't see another generation of these in the future.

I might have to get one.

I use an iTouch as my in-car device. As such, I prefer the smaller size. The 128 G is compelling since that allows for more music and audiobooks on the device, which is good given that I don't generally stream music in the car.

Agree, I'd have jumped had they bumped the size.

True. If the iPod Touch is targeted at kids, keeping the price down makes sense.

I'm not saying they shouldn't offer a 4" iPod Touch, because clearly there's a market for one. Also, Apple does offer a 4" iPhone 5 for those who don't want a big phone. I'm just saying a 4" iPod Touch doesn't interest me, but if they offered a bigger iPod Touch, I'd get one.

the dimensions look to be exactly the same as the 5th gen ipod touch. the only way to tell between the two gen just by looking is the lack of the pop-out button for the wrist strap on the newer model.

New colors for the nano and shuffle. Apple still call them "new" for that reason though.
