Plus, I bought my "big ticket" item (A kindle) last week, and am lovin it. I hope they pay their warehouse staff well for the flux of orders that will come in on this sale!

Generally the time doesn't matter, but every once in a while, it is really important. Last Sunday I needed a specific brand and flavor of pet food; couldn't find it at any local stores. Came home and ordered a case from Amazon and had it Tuesday morning. No extra fee for shipping, and it was cheaper than the local store prices. Definitely made me happy I had Prime.

For me it's not the time (I almost always take the credit for picking slow shipping), it's the $35 threshold for free shipping. Even when it was $25, I used to spend far too much time and money searching for things to bring me up to $25 and $35 would be worse still.

Now, a $5 thumb drive, say? Add to cart, hit buy, done. And I've knocked an effective buck off the price by choosing slow shipping - which tends to be only a day or two later.

I pretty much use Prime for the same reason. I don't need to worry about the minimum order for free shipping and I almost always select the slower shipping for the credit.

Amazon Prime Day was advertised on TV the other night, and there was an article in my local newspaper, too. A brilliant promotion on Amazon's part!

Thanks for posting that! I forgot to add the Prime Day Music Contest to my calendar when I read about it earlier. I can always make good use of Amazon gift cards!

Same here. The $1 (or $2) Prime no-rush shipping credits have really added up for free music and e-books. I rarely need anything in two days anyway. It is nice not to have the $35 free-shipping threshold. We watch Prime movies & TV shows, I enjoy Prime music (listening to a Carole King album right now), and the monthly e-book borrow is a nice perk, too.

I resisted subscribing to Prime until they had an offer I couldn't pass up late last year. It's definitely been worth it for me.

I'm sure I've made at least $99 a year in credits, so Prime is essentially free for me I guess.

I can see how prime is useful for many people. I tend to almost always buy items which reach the minimum and I've not ever had an emergency (as with the pet food need written above). The Canadian minimum last time I shopped was $25, and we have a household of 5 people with different wish-list items.

It entirely depends on the needs of the person and whether it would save them money. I've thought about it before and came to the conclusion that I wasn't the target market.

I find it irritating that they are celebrating 20 years of business by rewarding only selected loyal customers with a sale ie those that have elected to join prime. I've been a loyal amazoner for a long time and don't get to participate in the celebration sale.

Prime is probably wonderful if you are in the US but as someone from down under it sucks big time, yes we can join but if we do we don't get any price break on shipping, we can not access any video or music(unless we spoof our IP address) so that just leaves the elibrary which means for my $99 I get one free ebook lend a month yippee

My biggest annoyance with it is that I'm a movie buff and collect blurays and they have started adding bluray and dvd titles into an exclusive to prime section so often a new release will only be available for sale to prime members, sometimes months after a title has been released its still sitting as exclusively prime meaning I have no choice but to find another retailer to buy it from.

Now the cherry on the cake they are having a sale that's bigger than Black Friday but only for some of their customer so for me prime=totallynotcool

I hear you. Also, Prime launched in 2005. It would be more honest and literal to call it the 10th anniversary sale since they are only offering it to Prime members.

I had been buying from Amazon LONG before they even introduced prime. Back when they only offered books, and before they established a Canadian site, and I had to work out the USA:CDN exchange rate to see if buying the item as a logical decision. (I was one of those naughty people who browsed exclusive bookstores, noted a title, and saw what it cost at Amazon, and ultimately ordered it there)

If I had a wish list saved up and money to spend, I would have been personally disappointed. But as I said in an earlier post, I bought a Kindle from Staples (Staples and Amazon.ca had it for the same price but Staples had it right there) at the end of June, and that's my "big spending" for this year.

You know, folks...
Amazon launched on the *16th* of July.

Bezos just might have something up his sleeve for that date.
(A Liquavista Kindle would be an extreme long shot but nit impossible.)

And the original rumors were for a *week-long* series of sales.
Odds are non-Prime customers will get their deals.

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...10&postcount=1

It is just that Prime Day makes for a good story (getting free publicity out of the idiot press) and drums up new subscribers.
