There's "new" MMPB reprints available in the US from Eos (for book one). I don't know if that means Harper Collins is the current publisher, or if those paperpacks are just leftovers from the now defunct Eos imprint. I see Harper Voyager listed for some of the later volumes, though.

The publisher through Smashwords didn't restrict the availability of the Omnibus to the US. I've never heard of that publisher before. They don't have anything published except through Smashwords.

At this point I think it's up to you to demonstrate that they're legitimate. I think they are pirates, certainly on the balance of probabilities, and very nearly beyond reasonable doubt.

It's cool. I honestly don't much care either way. Was just pointing out that just because her UK publishers weren't familiar with the book didn't automatically mark the book as a pirate edition.

Prove to us that the editions on Amazon and Smashwords is legit. You won't be able to because they are not legit.

Tonight's giggle. When I saw the title of the thread I thought, "That poor women. Gets sent to prison for insider trading and now this. It just doesn't stop." Oh, wait, that was Martha Stewart.

Meh, this is the United States. Innocent until proven guilty (usually) I do not need to prove anything.

Also, I don't care much. Those aren't really my kind of books.

You are saying these books might not be pirated. So prove to us they are not. We've given you some reasons why there are pirated. So prove us wrong.

First of all, I have nothing to prove to you. You have your opinion, I have mine.

You know, instead of coming back to me with the same nonsense you could, you know, do something.

I've repeatedly said I don't care either way. But since nobody here seems to want to do anything but complain, I went to the Harper Collins website. They still sell paper versions of the series, but have no e-book versions.

I used the Contact Us link on their website. I'm only expecting a canned response or no response from that. So I dug further and found this link: http://www.harpercollins.com/for-authors/report-piracy

Filled that out also.

You're only innocent if you didn't do it.

Presumption of innocence is only for the courts in criminal trials.

The omnibus at Smashwords has been up since (as far as I know) this was first discussed here on Mobileread years ago. Every few years, like eating a can of peppery beans, some individuals on Mobileread get all fired up. Then, once its out of their systems, an uneasy quiet prevails (with the occasional 'outburst' of pent-up gas to let us know the issue is still current). Later, someone brings a newly-bought can-opener to the party, along with another can of beans, and the discussion - like a zombie on steroids - starts all over again.

My observation: Smashwords continues to do nothing about this.

Here's a suggestion: The Smashwords creator is a member here (if my memory is correct). I suggest someone with an interest in this issue PM him and suggest that he remove this bogus omnibus. Whether anything is done, of course, remains to be seen.

Me: I plan to buy the legit Omnibus when it becomes available in the U.S. The covers look wonderful.

If the publisher of a pirate edition was a member here they'd quickly find themselves a banned member.

I don't know if Smashwords is considered a Publisher, or if they define themselves as a Publisher.

I'll need to go back and look at their statements on this. (You may be right with that definition, but I want to check further.)
