Possible bug
Hi @Ephemerality,

I have noticed something odd.

For some x-rays I generate I am able to click a character's alias in the book and get the matching x-ray entry (Image 1).

On other x-rays I generate when I click a character's alias no x-ray shows up (Image 2).
Only when I click the x-ray menu option on the top of the page I get the x-ray entries for the aliases that are on that page (Image 3)

Any ideas what might be causing this?

Yeah, that happens when you click an alias versus the actual entity name. "Vogons" is the main name for that entity. In the other example, the actual name is "Mikael Blomkvist" and "Blomkvist" is the alias. If his full name shows up anywhere, the X-Ray should show.
I never did manage to figure out why it works for Amazing's X-Rays and not mine. If you figure out something that works, let me know.

Post Some GUI updates...
I've been tinkering on and off (in my little free time) with my version of Ephemerality's X-ray Builder GUI. I've made quite a few updates to it, and currently it seems to work ok, for me anyway. For anybody that is interested, I've attached the (unsupported at present) binaries and source

NICE! I was playing around with a preview mode, but never got time to finish it, that's awesome.
I've been slowly working on merging changes over into the main repo when I have some spare time. You've done a lot to it though, so it's a lot to review

Edit: I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to set up a repo (either your own or I can make a new branch) so the source is available online and can be modified by both of us. Your changes are so significant that it might be worthwhile to just replace my version with yours...

Sounds good. I'm getting it set it up on GitHub... Google Code is being decommissioned in January and won't let me create a new branch so I may as well move everything over now. Do you have a GitHub account?

when i try to build an xray, i always get this error:

Kindle will not display an X-ray for this book.
You must either use Calibre's Quality Check plugin (Fix ASIN for Kindle Fire) or a Mobi editor (exth 113 and 504) to change this.
I have tried to change the ASIN to "B004P1JEXE" for "A feast for crows", but i still get this error. any help?

edit 2: so i don't triple post.
A few things, i downloaded darrenmcg's version. It works pretty good.
I manage to make the x-ray load on my PW2 by removing the book from the device, then add it again and copy the files on the kindle. I'm guessing that for some reason, it doesn't show on books that were previously opened on the device. It won't load on selections though, only through the menu

I am having a few problems with the generator though.
1- the search function usually doesn't work saying "unable to find hard-cover version of this book" but it works fine if i paste the url from shelfari

2- It has a really hard time to find the author info. i'll just paste here what it says, and if you guys need more info i'll gladly give it to you

@loco, you need to do what Manahtar says. The only time you will get that message is when the ASIN has not been "fixed" by the Calibre plugin. It's to make sure the ASIN info is embedded in the book correctly and the generated files match the ebook on the device.

1. The GUI currently searches for a hardcover or kindle edition of the book on Shelfari, does one exist, have you checked. Those two editions covered all the books I was trying when developing. The search function may still need tweaking.
What is the Safari URL you paste into the GUI?

2. That author URL gives a 404 page not found error. It doesn't look right to me.
What is the author name and title of your book? (currently on one author name is supported)
Can you post the log when running the search?

darren i am still lost on how to do it. calibre plugin says that all is correct. i am totally lost. any links or tuts would be highly appreciated.

Can you try this version? I've added an option to dump the KindleUnpack log file. Check Settings->Debug->Save unpack and post the file here so we can see what KindleUnpack is seing. The file will be in the "dmp" folder with a ".unpack" extension.

@Manahtar, is this the book you're trying?

If so, it is found on Shelfari as The Children of Hurin. If you update your metadata the Shelfari search could work. Still looking at the Amazon search...

It's the EXE only. Did you copy it into the original location that the old EXE was, and overwrite it?
