And Kobo won't let you go back and get a missing firmware update so that you can do them sequentially.
Kobo didn't tell you that because it isn't true. All firmware updates are complete replacements of the software. They include code to migrate the database from whatever version it starts at to the version for the firmware.

What you have hit is what this thread is all about. There is a problem that some WiFi's break when they are updated to the latest firmware. Your symptoms at the end perfectly describe this. The only known fix is to write a new image to the internal SD card. I have sent you a PM with a link to an image.

Could I possibly get that image as well. My mom's Kobo WiFi has these exact symptoms and I'd like to get it usable again if at all possible.

Which Kobo WiFi do you have, N647, N647B, or 289? Once we know that we can send you the correct file so you can write the image file onto the internal SD card.

If I'm reading the ID code on the base of the kobo correctly, it should be the 289.

Hello, I would very much appreciate to also get this SD card thingy, although I'm not sure how to apply it to my Kobo Wifi e-reader. Maybe I can find it in this topic, I will read on.

At least I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem! I wish I'd never connected to wifi again after two years of not using the device. Not sure why I even did that..

Hi, would it be possible to get the SD card image too?

Things stopped working at the start of the week just as I was consigned to bed with a chest infection - I really could do with my Kobo working again!

I'm not sure if I need 1.9.11 or 1.9.12, the model number is N647B
