I figured that if the user wanted to save it then perhaps s/he was going to come back later. I didn't want to create a situation where one *must* finish in order to go have dinner.
Could you send me the metadata_db_prefs_backup.json from your library? That will tell me the exact column configuration.

@Purple Lady: could you be using more than one library? I ask because in the screen capture you showed in post 14 there isn't any Genre data. Or is this a book in the database that doesn't have any Genre information attached?

@Purple Lady: I can confirm that there is is (was) a problem with custom columns used in templates where the custom column was empty. The release alpha version assumes that a missing value is an invalid value. The next release will check if the column is defined but otherwise empty and if so will return an empty value.

It is happening because you have an extra closing } at the end of the template.

Well i played a little bit with the "if, then, else" in a template.

:if:{series}:then:{series│_│}:else:{first_author}:::/{series_index││ - }{title} - {first_author}

Downloading books from Dropbox:

Result for Books with series as expected.
_Series/1 - Title - First Author

Result for books without series as expected:
First Author/Title - First Author

So far so good.
If there would be the possibility to define the amount of digits (so that files get correct listed in case there are more than 10 books in a series) in "series_index" i would be more than happy..jaja.

I love it.
Looking forward to Calibre 2.32, so that CC can take his template when books are pushed from Calibre to CC with Wifi.

Take a look at the CC Template FAQ. The third bullet point in "Basic Syntax" should be of interest to you.

This change will be in the next release, which should be in a day or two.

Suggestions: %06.2f results for example in 000,35
May it possible to change the digit separator from ',' to '.' ?

Or is there a special reason you have chosen the ','?

I didn't choose it. Android chose it because that is the standard decimal separator in your locale.

Hmmm...
On one side you are right regarding standard decimal separator in my local - Spanish uses ",".
On the other hand Calibre (English and Spanish GUI ) uses the "." when pushing books to my tablet

So here my final template - for now

 :if: {series}:then:{series:|_|}:else:{first_author} :::/{series_index:%04d/%07.2f|[|] - }{title} -  {first_author}

I use 4(,2) digits in total as I have series up to 3.000 booklets.

P. S.
Are you planning something like a "contains" syntax?

Example:

 :if: {tags:contains|test} :then: {series_index:%04d} :else: {series_index:%04.2f}:::

Of course this syntac also for other fieldes, not only {tags}

This problem came back again. I noticed it in 4.0.0i and it's still there when I updated to 4.0.0j.
