Firmware 1.3 Testing:
I would like to report some update with French Firmware 1.3.
I have updated to FW 1.3 from instruction on PRSCustomizer web (Thanks Jeff)
Then using Universal Flasher 2.1 to update FONTS. (only this now)
After that testing the PDF (A4 size) Books,
Notice reflow from S ro M and to L is a lots better, smoother and some floating senetence is gone (from the same file testing on FW1.1)

Add:
kBookAssets still works

Hi All I dropped my prs-505 (d'oh)and the on off switch broke without any possibility of repair I can turn it on with a pin and can use the customizer to use the enter key to shut off however I find it's easier to just leave it on all the time, however the only problem is that sometimes the page changes from pressure on the cover in my pocket.What I;m wondering is, is there a hack to replace one the keys with the sleep key?

I'll look into it.

When you say that 'the page changes from pressure" has the page actually changed or is the display dimmed with "PAGE _XXX " displayed, waiting for an enter keypress?

If the latter is true, you can press "menu" to remain on your original page. If your page has changed pressing the left-arrow on the joypad (history back) should return you to your original page.

You can also use PRSCustomizer to turn off number keys when reading (but lose the ability to go directly to a page). They remain functional otherwise.

I also would like to know how you are turning it on and off exactly right now?

My switch is just refusing to work!!

There is a small piece of white plastic under the switch just pres that sideways with a pin and it will turn on

I managed succesfully to change date format editing kbookLanguageAssets file and to modify some text labels I didn't like.... but..
Can anyone explain me why even if in kbookLanguageAssets I can find those two strings:

when I connect my reader to the pc those messages are in french?? (USB connectè... etc)

I edited the kbookLanguageAssets, then I placed it in the folder K:\files.505.1.3.00.22070\opt\sony\ebook\applicati on\resources\scripts on the MemoryStick and then I flashed with option 5 an 6... after reboot other changes worked perfectly (ie date format) but the two messages in the bottom bar when the reader is USB connected were still in french...

The default language also has to be specified in storageStart.xml. Perhaps, elsewhere also, I'm still working out bugs for PRSCustomizer 1.05

oh... I understand... And... where I can find original 1.3 mainStorage.xml to edit??? I haven' figured out how to extract original .xml files from my reader....

Hi everyone...

First of all, sorry for my english but i m french ... Here's my "problem": I bought few days ago a prs-505 (a red one, it's a christmas gift for my mom,she loves red and in france, we can only have the PRS in grey color so...) from the USA. I saw prs customizer and i thought it would be easy to change "language menu"... My firmware is a 1.3... and i don't know what i have to do exactly to have french menus....
Do i have to downgrade firmware or wait for a download of a french firmware? Please , someone can help me?

For Firmware 1.3

1. Download PRSCustomizer and unzip.

2. Place the attached files in:

sdcard/files.505.1.3.00.22070/opt/sony/ebook/application/resources/scripts/

3. Place the contents of the sdcard folder on the root of a secure digital card.

4. Insert card in Reader. When Igorsk's Universal Flasher appears, choose option #5, then option #6.

5. When your Reader reboots, it should be localized to French.

The next version of PRSCustomizer (1.05) will support 1.3 natively.
