Wow. That's got to be uncomfortable, unless you mean reclined angle.
Anyway, why not scan your documents and carry them around in the Kindle itself. ... and just bring my iPad Mini. It's like a Swiss Army Knife for doctor's visits. It has a nice case to protect it, a calendar app for easy scheduling of follow-up appointments, documents with my lists of Meds, previous surgeries, Doctor's phone numbers and all the other info that medical offices often want, as well as scans of insurance and various identification cards; it also allows me to record my conversations with the doctors and the staff so I can make accurate notes later if I need them ... Don't forget the photos of the kids.
Squid (and a lurking Cybmole),

Turning all of my info into electronic data has already occurred. The issue of course is that the system I have doesn't mate with the provincial health system and they are quite insistent on things like the actual physical card. They even run it through a card reader. By now, they all know me (and isn't the saddest thing ever to admit you're on a first name basis with all the staff in the acute care ward of Emergency?), but I still have to hand over my card every time and religiously spout my birth date every time one nurse hands me off to another. I THOUGHT about recording that until I remembered that not everybody I deal with has a sense of humour. So, I persist with paper and hand them copies, which are then frequently re-typed into their computers. Heck, they re-type everything in various wards of the hospital, rather than share data. Drives me daft. Or dafter, depending on your point of view. Enough kvetching.

I have a once over-filled Day Runner that I am going to try once the Paperwhite arrives. The plan is to buy a dirt cheap non-magnetic case just for the elastic corner tabs, cut off the left hand side and then velcro it into the back of the Day Runner (after assorted pages of out-of-date notes and telephone numbers are removed). It's zippered, which I've come to accept is my fate. And it has both storage and a mini-binder for punch holes. I've even got the specialized six-hole punch for pages.

IF that doesn't work, then this will: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00G...A2VVTK89H2BI6R

I'm an Android guy, having three tablets around the house. I've THOUGHT about re-purposing the Asus 7 in for this work. I can even get another one in PLACE of the Paperwhite. Books read fine on the 10 in Toshiba down to either of the 7 in tablets. But the cheap Chinese small one is ensconced as my bedroom clock/internet radio device, the Asus the office tablet and the Toshiba the living room tablet. If their power consumption was a little better, I'd be skipping the Paperwhite. But a book reader is a book reader is a book reader. Thus, I am sticking with the original plan. The Paperwhite, with the backup books list, will go into either the re-purposed Day Runner (the dimensions supposedly JUST FIT) or into this Khomo from Amazon.ca. The Khomo is JUST a little bigger than I wanted, while it's probable that the Day Runner is JUST a little smaller. C'es la vie.

Oh, one last thing. No kids. No grand-kids. I take huge delight in the accomplishments of my best friend's pair of just adult children who are off to university trying to learn how to make the world a better place. But for me, a device devoid of pictures is ... my life.

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread and helped steer me towards a working solution. Much appreciated all. GM

Shari,

Thanks for the links. I DID consider both earlier in my decision-making process. (and there ARE Canadian versions with mostly the same costs). They have a FLAP for a little bit of paper, but the volume I carry would overwhelm that level. Especially in the first of the two, which features a magnetic closing (and opening).

IF any company would make a soft-shell case that had some inner lining and a COUPLE of those flaps, it would make an ideal case for my needs. But I have come to the conclusion that I WANT to try my re-purposing solution first. THEN, if that fails, I'll fall back on using the Khomo.

For edification purposes only, I also looked hard at a Filofax that is A5 sized, specifically http://www.amazon.ca/Day-Timer-67199...0WGQP549T4A6RA It would basically duplicate the old Day Runner that have, which is roughly 5 3/8 by 8 1/4, which covers the Kindle's 4 3/4 by 6 3/4 *=(roughly). That Filofax is 6 1/2 by 8, a little larger. But free is free, so I have an in-house solution. IF it appears that it will be TOO tight, then I plan to go to the Khomo.

In all cases, I plan to VELCRO in the reader on the back portion of whatever I get, or into the tablet slot on the Khomo. I'm tottering on whether to additionally buy a cover too, for the ability to just yank the kindle from the travel storage and read it. For that I am thinking http://www.amazon.ca/Paperwhite-JETe...aperwhite+case

Hope that clears up everything. GM

Gary,

One of these cheap shells should work nicely for your velcro plan. It'd be a lot easier than tearing apart a different case!

http://www.amazon.ca/Fosmon®-Paperwh...dp/B00ARISV2O/

I've used them previously. It's TPU, not silicone as it vaguely appears in the picture. Basically a flexible plastic that's easy to get the kindle into and rigid enough that you could stick adhesive to it.

I'm in Germany, so I don't know about Canada.
Good Luck for you

I actually carry around the half-sized version of that case in my cargo pants. Mostly my travelling office with some moleskin notepads and pencils. I would have given consideration to this case, but I would have preferred a clamshell that opens along the long side. It's just what I'm used to.

My whole KPW (the newest release, due here July 2nd), has come to a conclusion. The old grey Day Runner works. I bought a JET case that I've got 'velcroed' into the back. So, I get the protection of the JET case and then the padding of the Day Runner. It's grey faux leather. I'm already starting to adapt my documentation to the DayRunner size. Means I can twice as many copies of the stuff. Been a while since I was exporting stylesheet spreadsheets to pagemaker, but it's all doable. Plus, i have lots of thingamajigs that provide receipt envelopes, rulers, place-markers, plastic do-dad keepers.

I also bought the bigger case and I'm going to move my oldest Android tablet to it. It's also the kind of thing that I can use as a "in case of emergency, make sure Gary gets this case" kind of kit. The tablet is now 'extra' at this point, a first-edition of the Toshiba Thrive.

All of this has gone very well. I'll try to post pictures once the KPW is in hand, or rather in place in the DayRunner.

Thanks to everybody who's taken time to contribute to this thread. GM
