Just a theory, but I think this is less about shipping times or cost and more about warehouse staffing. By having longer to process your order (and with slo-mo shipping Amazon sometimes waits 3-5 days before putting my stuff in a box) they may not need to add to their staffing to accommodate more orders, or at least more rush delivery orders. Not sure but this made sense to me when I considered it.

But maybe.
The main reason I joined Prime was to not have to put together $25 (now $35) orders to qualify for free shipping. Since delivery time was secondary to me this is a great perk.

Thanks for letting us know about the $2.00 credit! I have some items I need to order...

It's £1 here in the UK, but since it was also £1 when your coupon was $1, I won't complain about it now.

How do you get this credit? I'm a Prime member, but I see no option for it.

When you order something that has Prime shipping (don't use one-click ordering!), in the checkout page there's an option to choose 'no-rush' shipping. This means the item will arrive the two or three days instead of next day, but gives a £1 credit towards ebooks (or a few other things).

Unless I need something urgently, I always choose no-rush shipping now if it's a Prime order, and the credits have been very welcome. NB The credits will expire after a few months if unused.

Many thanks - I always use one-click checkout, which is why I've not been seeing it. I'll have to start using this for things I'm not in any hurry for. I generally place a couple of Amazon orders every week, so it could save me quite a lot of money.

Two or three days would be nice. In the US no rush shipping is a week.

The benefit of living in a small country . We get next-day delivery with Prime, and normal delivery generally in 2-3 days.

During last holiday season, no-rush shipping usually was very fast, but I have noticed it's slower now. However, I placed several orders last night, each with no-rush shipping, and one item was shipped this morning!

The current $2 credits expire July 31, 2015, by the way. I use mine to purchase Kindle e-books and MP3s, but they're also good for digital video. It's a nice bonus that I use often, as I generally don't need items right away.

The order I placed yesterday with no rush shipping was shipped this morning too! I will get it on Sunday. I ordered another item this morning so we'll see how fast that one goes.

When you placed several orders last night, did you wait between orders? I'm concerned they will start limiting no rush orders if you place the orders one right after the other.

I complete one order and then do another within a few minutes. I receive the $2 no-rush shipping credit for each order. Sometimes, Amazon will package several orders in one box, but other times they're shipped separately. I think that depends on where the items are warehoused.

What do you purchase at Amazon and why? Is the price lower? Can not source locally? No time to shop? Hate shopping?

I buy pretty much everything except food at Amazon. I loath shopping and Amazon is convenient.
