Could you go into some detail as to why? I could see where you may damage the Transmitters/receivers, but from what little I've been able to find out (a couple of diagrams), the transmitters are on two sides and the receivers are on the opposite two sides, so no reflections are necessary?

It might not hurt, of course, but I wasn't going to leave a potentially harmful suggestion on the board. If someone wants to risk their Glo HD, I'd be interested to hear the result, but I wouldn't be surprised to find it ruined it. |

Removing the tape was easy, polishing the bezel is going to be difficult. |

I got used to the reflections, and even the black color, on my H2O. It looks bad on YouTube videos but usually there's a lot of extra lighting in those videos since dark videos look bad, so in practice with regular light at home it's not bad.
But even so, if in the future there is a choice I will prefer white readers again. Only text should be black, a black border is somewhat distracting. |

Sorry about that. What I meant was removing the tape was easy -- since it was only on for a couple of minutes, the adhesive came with it. Polishing the bezel after using an emery board or similar on it would be difficult.

I would not polish it with anything,if you hit the glass you will have a problem and if you find something to polish it and the function of the i.r. is gone you will be sorry for a long time.. leave it this way ?? |

I still don't think that piece is necessary though or does anything specific with the IR beams. I think it was just added as a fancy "keep the dust bunnies and food crumbs out" for those who eat over their reader like a dish. |

I'm not sure exactly how IR optics work (a TV remote you can point nearly anywhere and it works, but with a touchscreen you need precision). In the H2O I imagine it's like this. There's some black/glossy/but IR-translucent L-shaped structure in the bezel that gets the IR stuff from below the Kobo's mainboard to the atop of the screen.

Thats howfar I already was, but if you need it in the original state for the device to work, you just turned it into a expensive picture frame and can't reverse it anymore..

I'm still hoping that high-gloss piece might just be snapped into the front shell and can be just as easily snapped out (and then snapped back in if something shouldn't work). I just haven't had the time to take my reader apart. Last edited by Ripplinger; 06-20-2015 at 12:12 AM. |

My image above was wrong by the way it's not below the mainboard, but below the display. But the plastic is doing the IR beam redirection shenanigan somehow, it has this transluscent part attached to it, and it's this glossy edge that sits atop the device and it reaches into the device itself with some kinda extension fins. You can see this a bit on the pictures I posted here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...66#post2998466 You can see the IR things on the sides of the mainboard, and a bit of them on the top of the display, and the glossy fins on the bezel. The bezel pic is particularly bad you can see it much better in this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bffxKvz9RhA What he calls "barriers" at 1:20 is actually the IR reflector? redirection? lens? shenanigans you can see these "barriers" are exactly the same glossy plastic material and it's see-through for IR. So these "barriers" reach into the device below the display and bring the IR to the top of the display somehow and that's why touch only works with this stuff and not with-out. |
