Prospects for a Kindle Voyage hack? - Page 3

As I continue to hope that better minds than mine can come up with a jailbreak for the Kindle Voyage, should I try to avoid the 5.6.1 update that is now available for the KV? It's sort of a pain to avoid, since it means turning off wifi and losing syncing with my other Kindle apps, but if folks think it's likely that any JB will only work with 5.5 I'll do that (and continue to hope!)

EDIT -- Dang. Never mind. Update just happened....

I suspect Amazon is reactive in nature, and must wait until we find a hack before blocking it.

IOW, the hack should apply equally to any firmware released at least up to the date of the JB release.

My Kindle Voyage arrives on Sunday. I have access to Linux/OSX/Windows machines. I would like to volunteer to help with jailbreaking. Let me know how I can help (how to get a dump, etc)

Hello all,

Got a Voyage last week and couldn't be any happier - my first eReader has been a success so far.

I run GNU+Linux everywhere, let me know if I can be of any help in order to help hatch this hack

I know this is a dead thread, but the topic still fits..

On first boot (asking language), the Voyage DOES still expose a mass-storage device.
Unfortunately, any attempt to access it with Linux gives "No medium found."

After passing the language prompt, the standard drive becomes accessible.

Yes, the topic still fit... At last Amazon.it yesterday started selling Voyage here and mine is on the way and in a couple of hours it will knock my door!!!

I'm trying reading all posts, but I'm not able to find/understand all news regarding Voyage jailbreak :-(
Is the only way "to go serial"? I'm a poor cobol coder and I have no hw skill. :-(
I read some hints about "do something at the first poweron" too, but I did not catch the whole clue... however, in case, yes a could boot my pc with linux...

Is there some goodhearted folk to help me to recap the situation and find the correct link?

There is no way to jailbreak a Voyage other than through the serial port. If the device doesn't do what you require it to "out of the box", I'd suggest returning it to Amazon. Personally all I do on mine is read books, so I'm very happy with it.

Tnak HarryT, got the point and basicly agree.
Jailbreak let me... breathie easier.
Also if the feature I cannot do w/o it is the "enlarged" margin (the ability to use all the screen instead of loosing all those bloody white millimiters from the border).

I survived for long with the pw1 in airplane mode; doing the same with the new voyeage will not be a pain

I'm afraid that won't help. Your Voyage will ship with v5.6.x firmware, which can only be jailbroken via the serial port.
