I wonder if this separate file from 3.16 if put on H2O will not clash with 3.17 for Aura when ready? I'm hesitating to upgrade to 3.15 as well.

I'm currently deciding if I want to put 3.16.0 on my H2O. But for now, I am using 3.15.0 and it's working well. I use just ePub and it it's working for me.

There won't be a problem. Kobo have been doing the separate releases for a long time and all of them have been installed on devices they were not released for. No one has reported a problem receiving or installing the later update.

It seems that the KEPUB hypenation is not respecting the LEFTHYPHENMIN and RIGHTHYPHENMIN settings in the hyphenation dictionaries, so there is no way to control how much hyphenation you get.

For example it will hyphenate everywhere as ev-reywhere even when there is no leading punctuation and I have LEFTHYPHENMIN set to 3.

(Still a big improvement on earlier firmware though, at least the hyphens are always at valid positions now, and I'd rather have too much hyphenation than too little.)

An easy way to see the new menu ghosting is to open the Aa menu and select a font from the top of the list, such as Publisher Default. When the font menu closes there is a very heavy ghost of the words "Publisher Default" on the screen. (This case dosn't matter much though, because the screen gets refreshed when you return to the book.)

This type of ghosting didn't happen until 3.15.0, and in 3.15.0 it could be fixed by setting LeanAndMean=false which make the reverse menu items white on black instead of the odd colour combinations they are now.

Thanks JSWolf and davidfor

I will still think about it. I'm still on 3.11 and no complaints. I just overlooked/missed the 3.12 and 13. I also use only epub, no kepubs at all. But one question, if I upgrade to 3.15 or 16 and I don't like it, do I have to factory reset the reader before rolling back to earlier fw?

if you don't like 3.15.0 or 3.16.0, you can go back to 3.13.1. I was using that before 3.15.0 and it is good. One thing I really like with 3.15.0 is the fix for the no hyphenation for the first line of a paragraph with an indent. I was reading a book that had a fair number of first lines that had gaps because of that bug. 3.15.0 fixed that and no more gaps like that.

"If going to a previous version, you may want to do a Factory Reset."

save KoboReader.sqlite before factory reset.

Thanks oren, I will keep that in mind.

JSWolf, I don't always read in English and I noticed words are not hyphenated at all. I always have text fully justified, with occasional gaps. I am still deliberating with the upgrade. I don't have many collections but if I have to do factory reset to roll back in case I don't like fw... meh. What to do, what to do...

This ghosting is visible on the Kobo Touch too. And as you said, LeanAndMean does not change it.

I never had to do a factory reset while up or downgrading, some recommended it because maybe "leftovers" of previous versions are there, but I up and downgraded on 3 devices maybe 4 times each device and never felt the need to do a factory reset.
Hyphenating only works on kepubs, with the epubs I use there was never any hyphenation. (And with kepubs only when hyphenation is on in the stylesheet,or use the wrong settings while transferring from epub to kepub)
With the latest Glo I went from 3.13 to 3.15, back to 3.13 and to try some ghosting settings back to 3.11 and with the glo HD from 3.16 back to 3.15 and again back to 3.16 without ever had the need to do a factory reset.
I will never guarantee anything, but never need to do the factory reset only when I sold my old Glo to remove my settings.

I use ePub and yes I get hyphenation. I'm using English and I have an appropriate hyphenation dictionary.

What languages do both of you read in? It's quite possible you don't have a hyphenation dictionary for ePub/RMDSK in the language you read.

As for up/downgrading, you don't always need to do a factory reset. It would depend if you need to go back to an older uboot.

What I do in circumstances like this is take a copy of everything on the ereaders drive. Then, if I need to do a factory reset after whatever I was playing with, when I get back to the firmware I want, I remove what is on the ereader and copy everything back.

I am reading in the Dutch language, that gives me hyphenation in Kepubs but I don't include that in the transfer plugins.
In epubs I have never seen any hyphenations.
In kepubs they are still wrong, the - is now on the right places but not used the right way.
Like the word intervention and 7 caracters left until the right side margin (by example) will be:
Code:
in-
tervention
while
Code:
 inter-
vention
still fits.

I do the same, I created a directory reader on my e-drive and copy everything on the readers drive (K in my case) to it, including all sub directory's.
Then I take my second Glo HD and copy everything back.
So both readers contain the same books, images, settings and databases.
It is like a wired synchronisation.
I never used it for a factory reset, like I said I had never have to do this before, maybe like JSWolf said it can be needed if you go back 5 versions or so when the uboot changed..but if that is the case the change is in the upgrade or downgrade to so even then I don't know if a factory reset is needed because if it is,the upgrade would ask for a factory reset to. (maybe it saves and restores something in the background when upgrading, don't know enough about that) but between recent firmwares until now it is safe, if you do the copy work like you said and what I always do,then a factory reset doesn't matter, you always have your books, shelves and databases like they where before back...

The EPUB reader does automatic hyphenation by default when the text alignment is fully justified. If there is no hyphenation then it must be because something is wrong: wrong language set in the book's metadata; missing hyphenation dictionary for that language; or publisher has disabled hyphenation in the book's stylesheet.

The KEPUB and EPUB readers use the same hyphenation dictionaries, but they use different hyphenation algorithms, so the results are not exactly the same. The KEPUB hyphenation has improved in firmware 3.16.0, but the EPUB hyphenation is still a lot better.
