688-Page Biography of Lenin. Now Only 99 Cents!

The Life and Death of Lenin. By Robert Payne. Rated 3.9 stars, but from only 11 reviews at the present moment. Print list price N/A; digital list price $3.99; Kindle price now $0.99. Endeavor Press, publisher. 688 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Life-Death-Len...7E8D8740EF958F.

Book Description
Who was Vladimir Ilyich Lenin?

He was a man with vast potential for good and evil.

He was one of the twentieth century’s political geniuses.

He was the revolutionary leader who envisioned backward, feudal Russia as the world’s first socialist country.

He bent Karl Marx’s theories into a weapon for conquering state power, and built the Bolshevik Party into an efficient political machine capable of leading the workers and seizing power.

He held the Russian Revolution together through a bloody civil war, and yet he lived to see the betrayal of his ideals by the rise of Stalin.

As much as any leader, his ideas and personality shaped the 20th century.

Brand New Book by Ronald Zweig on Britain & Palestine during World War II. 99 Cents!

Britain and Palestine During the Second World War. By Ronald Zweig. Brand new book, no ratings at Amazon or GoodReads. Print list price N/A; digital list price $3.99; Kindle price now $0.99. Endeavor Press, publisher. 224 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Britain-Palest...13B62047249A1F.

Book Description
This major new work examines the radical change in British policy brought about through the publication of 1939 White Paper on Palestine.

Intended as the cornerstone diplomacy in the Middle East, guaranteeing Arab support in the war against Germany, it aimed at the termination of Jewish immigration and the creation of an independent Palestine.

Dr Zweig examines Palestine policy both in terms of overall diplomacy in the Middle East and as an attempt to shed the Mandate.

An exercise in colonial policy, it was undermined by political realities in London and practical difficulties in Palestine.

Describing how the only part effectively implemented was the limitation of Jewish immigration into Palestine – at the time when European Jewry was perishing under the Nazis – the author shows that Britain introduced the White Paper to terminate Arab revolt at the outbreak of War, only to be faced with Jewish revolt at the end of it.

92% of the regular digital price.

This book takes a secular/non-religious approach. I may not endorse any of the views held by the author of this book--I am just putting it "out there" for your consideration and because it has a very big markdown at the present moment.

Big Biography of the Founder of Modern Feminism, with a Big Markdown (92%!).

92% from the regular digital price.

Vindication. By Lyndall Gordon. Rated 3.8 at Amazon, but from only 14 reviews at the present moment; rated 3.92, from 152 ratings at GoodReads at the present moment. Print list price $16.95; regular digital price $12.50; Kindle price now $0.99. HarperCollins e-books, publisher. 592 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Vindication-Ly...ds=Vindication.

Book Description
The founder of modern feminism, Mary Wollstonecraft (1759-1797) was the most famous woman of her era. A brilliant, unconventional rebel vilified for her strikingly modern notions of education, family, work, and personal relationships, she nevertheless strongly influenced political philosophy in Europe and a newborn America. Now acclaimed biographer Lyndall Gordon mounts a spirited defense of this courageous woman whose reputation has suffered over the years by painting a full and vibrant portrait of an extraordinary historical figure who was generations ahead of her time.

99 Cents for this Big, Highly Rated Biography of the Doors' Jim Morrison.

Break on Through: The Life and Death of Jim Morrison. By James Riordan; Jerry Prochnicky. Rated 4.5, from 65 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $19.99; digital list price $5.99; Kindle price now $0.99. Image Workshop Press, publisher. 544 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Break-Through-...f+Jim+Morrison.

Book Description
Thirty-five years after his death in Paris at age twenty-seven, Jim Morrison's iconic legend remains as powerful as ever, swathed in the mists of mystery. There have been numerous biographies about the self-proclaimed "Lizard King's" life and career. But none have examined his roots and childhood, the intellectual foundations of his music, his wild days with the Doors, and his enigmatic early death as completely and insightfully as Break On Through.

More than simply a fascinating look at a rock legend whose cult following never stops growing, here is the definitive Morrison biography: his angry relationship with his father; the early tragedies and terrible events responsible for the darkness of his artistic vision; his private life and legal trials, including his infamous Miami obscenity bust; and the truth about his final hours. Based on extensive research and featuring dozens of rarely published photographs, this is the authoritative portrait of the poet, the grim visionary, the haunted man, and his haunting music.

Beyond Reengineering by Michael Hammer is $0.99, no idea for how long.

Kobo US: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/eb...-reengineering

Amazon US: http://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Reengin...dp/B002BD2V1A/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Reengineering has captured the imagination of managers and shareholders alike, sending corporations on journeys of radical business redesign that have already begun to transfigure global industry. Yet aside from earning them improvements in their business performance, the shift into more-process-centered organizations is causing fundamental changes in the corporate world, changes that business leaders are only now beginning to understand. What will the revolutions final legacy be? Beyond Reengineering addresses this question, exploring reengineering's effects on such areas as:

Jobs: What does process-centering do to the nature of jobs? What does a process-centered workplace feel like?

Managers: What is the new role of the manager in a process-centered company?

Education: What skills are vital in the process-centered working world, and how can young or inexperienced workers prepare?

Society: What are the implications of process-centering for employment and the economy as a whole?

Investment: What are the characteristics of a successful 21st-century corporation?

An informed look at one of the most profound changes to ever sweep the corporate world, Beyond Reengineering is the business manual for the 21st century.

Newspaper Correspondent Retraces Steps of Stanley in the Congo. $1.99 Ebook.

Blood River: The Terrifying Journey Through The World's Most Dangerous Country. By Tim Butcher. Rated 4.3 stars, from 86 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $16.00; digital list price $10.99; Kindle price now $1.99. Grove Press, publisher. 396 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Blood-River-Te...34689B4A98B9AD.

Book Description
Published to rave reviews in the United Kingdom and named a Richard & Judy Book Club selection—the only work of nonfiction on the 2008 list—Blood River is the harrowing and audacious story of Tim Butcher’s journey in the Congo and his retracing of legendary explorer H. M. Stanley’s famous 1874 expedition in which he mapped the Congo River. When Daily Telegraph correspondent Tim Butcher was sent to Africa in 2000 he quickly became obsessed with the legendary Congo River and the idea of recreating Stanley’s journey along the three-thousand-mile waterway. Despite warnings that his plan was suicidal, Butcher set out for the Congo’s eastern border with just a backpack and a few thousand dollars hidden in his boots. Making his way in an assortment of vehicles, including a motorbike and a dugout canoe, helped along by a cast of characters from UN aid workers to a pygmy rights advocate, he followed in the footsteps of the great Victorian adventurer. An utterly absorbing narrative that chronicles Butcher’s forty-four-day journey along the Congo River, Blood River is an unforgettable story of exploration and survival.

In Search of Robinson Crusoe by Tim Severin

Vivid eighteenth century tales of sailors washed ashore from shipwrecks, buccaneers on the run, white slaves escaping from pirates, and mutineers fleeing tyrannical captains - these were the mix from which Defoe conjured his classic book 'The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe'.

But could any man have survived what Crusoe endured ?
The explorer and writer Tim Severin was determined to find out.
Beginning on the coast of Chile, then traveling to Nicaragua, Pananama and the Caribbean islands of Venezuela, Severin travels to the sites of these amazing survival stories, camping on islands and visiting jungles to put to the test the adventures and survival strategies of Crusoe and his companion Man Friday.
In the process he debunks the widely-held belief that Alexander Selkirk, a castaway who piqued early eighteenth century popular interest, was Defoe's model.

The "Definitive" Biography of the Wright Brothers--BIG, and Now at a BIG Markdown

Since childhood, I have loved the story of the Wright Brothers. For some reason, I do not remember (or never learned) that they were referred to as the "Bishop's Boys," however. I can find out why from this tome, I'm sure.

I am happy to see this definitive, big (608 pages) biography of them marked down so low (to only 9% of the digital list price).

This is a 2003 reissue, which coincides with the 2003 anniversary of their first flight.

The Bishop's Boys: A Life of Wilbur and Orville Wright. By Tom D. Crouch. Rated 4.2 stars, from 32 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $21.95; digital list price $21.95; Kindle price now $1.99. W.W. Norton & Company, publisher. 608 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Bishops-Boys-W...D5FFE540C585DC.

Book Description
The reissue of this definitive biography heralds the one-hundredth anniversary of the Wright brothers' first flight.

Brilliant, self-trained engineers, the Wright brothers had a unique blend of native talent, character, and family experience that perfectly suited them to the task of invention but left them ill-prepared to face a world of skeptics, rivals, and officials. Using a treasure trove of Wright family correspondence and diaries, Tom Crouch skillfully weaves the story of the airplane's invention into the drama of a unique and unforgettable family. He shows us exactly how and why these two obscure bachelors from Dayton, Ohio, were able to succeed where so many better-trained, better-financed rivals had failed.

Recently Published History of the American Revolution. Now $3.99.

This book was a little "iffy," to me, to post. It's marked down "only" 67% from the digital list price. It's an exorbitant $3.99 (exorbitant for this hyper-frugal person; I hate posting books this expensive!).

What convinced me that I should post it is the fact that it has a stellar 4.8-star rating. And, according to ereaderiq.com, its price now is the lowest price that the ebook has ever had (although the book is fairly new, having been published in May, 2014).

So, without further ado (and, no, it's not "adieu," it is "ado"), here's the book.

American Spring: Lexington, Concord, and the Road to Revolution. By Walter R. Borneman. Rated 4.8, from 33 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $18.00; digital list(?) price $11.99; Kindle price $3.99. Little, Brown and Company, publisher. 416 pages. http://www.amazon.com/American-Sprin...+to+Revolution.

Book Description
A vibrant new look at the American Revolution's first months, from the author of the bestseller The Admirals

When we reflect on our nation's history, the American Revolution can feel almost like a foregone conclusion. In reality, the first weeks and months of 1775 were very tenuous, and a fractured and ragtag group of colonial militias had to coalesce rapidly to have even the slimmest chance of toppling the mighty British Army.

AMERICAN SPRING follows a fledgling nation from Paul Revere's little-known ride of December 1774 and the first shots fired on Lexington Green through the catastrophic Battle of Bunker Hill, culminating with a Virginian named George Washington taking command of colonial forces on July 3, 1775.

Focusing on the colorful heroes John Hancock, Samuel Adams, Mercy Otis Warren, Benjamin Franklin, and Patrick Henry, and the ordinary Americans caught up in the revolution, Walter R. Borneman uses newly available sources and research to tell the story of how a decade of discontent erupted into an armed rebellion that forged our nation.

Anyone Interested in Russian Roulette for about 11 Hours? It'll Cost You Only $5.98.

Eleven hours (and 18 minutes) is the length of the Whispersync audio companion to the 4.5-star ebook Russian Roulette: How British Spies Thwarted Lenin's Plot for Global Revolution.

The audio runs for that length because of the ebook being 400 pages in length.

Here's the description for the ebook at Amazon:
In 1917, a band of communist revolutionaries stormed the Winter Palace of Tsar Nicholas II-a dramatic and explosive act marking that Vladimir Lenin's communist revolution was now underway. But Lenin would not be satisfied with overthrowing the Tsar. His goal was a global revolt that would topple all Western capitalist regimes-starting with the British Empire.

Russian Roulette tells the spectacular and harrowing story of the British spies in revolutionary Russia and their mission to stop Lenin's red tide from washing across the free world. They were an eccentric cast of characters, led by Mansfield Cumming, a one-legged, monocle-wearing former sea captain, and included novelist W. Somerset Maugham, beloved children's author Arthur Ransome, and the dashing, ice-cool Sidney Reilly, the legendary Ace of Spies and a model for Ian Fleming's James Bond. Cumming's network would pioneer the field of covert action and would one day become MI6.

Living in disguise, constantly switching identities, they infiltrated Soviet commissariats, the Red Army, and Cheka (the feared secret police), and would come within a whisker of assassinating Lenin. In a sequence of bold exploits that stretched from Moscow to the central Asian city of Tashkent, this unlikely band of agents succeeded in foiling Lenin's plot for global revolution.

Tantalizing isn't it?

You can get the audio for only $3.99, by virtue of buying (or already having) the Kindle ebook, which is marked down right now a whopping 90% from the digital list price, to $1.99! So, the total for the whole deal--ebook, audiobook, and Whispersyncing benefits is only $5.98 ($3.99-ebook + $1.99-Whispersync audio = $5.98).

Go to the ebook page at Amazon to get both the ebook and audiobook.

If you would like more information about the audio component of this Whispersync deal, follow the link to the audiobook page at Audible.
