Sleep -- yes, I have a long-standing addiction to the stuff. Have tried to kick the habit, but it is a very strong addiction. I like staying awake for lots of hours - reading, etc -- but then getting the amount of sleep required by my addiction tends to put 26 or 28 hours into each day. This yields a body schedule not in-synch with the sun or the rest of the world. Annoyingly, this creates problems. So I struggle. Sigh.
Deb: I always get up at 6:30 am (although I often have to correct the clock when it shows things like 10:45 am), always start work at 8:45 am (again sadly, I must often change the clock as it seldom keeps the proper time.) I quit work exactly at 5:05 pm (even when the clock claims it to be 1:00 pm) dinner is promptly at 6:00 pm and its lights out at 9:30 pm even if that is several hours after David Letterman's "Top Ten List."

Yes, that was also quite conspicuous. I refrained from mentioning it because I didn't want to rub it in.

i strive for that schedule, personally. i think it will be easier when marc finally perfects the zany carter eyedrops which allow you to go to sleep 4 hours ago.

Waste of time, indeed. I'm a night owl, always have been. I try to put off sleeping for as long as I could, but when I'm asleep, I am deep in slumber's grasp which can be quite intoxicating.

Six hours a week? I don't understand why she has to sleep at all in the weekends. Anyway, I find that Ms. Pinwheel is quite generous with her responses, regardless of who it is she is replying to, and maybe more so to newbies. I'll give her that.

VR is a hopeless case. Good thing he has a dog.

I had one fifth of Zany Carter Deluxe and four fifths of buggerall.

Cheers,

I'm operating on ZZZelda time sleep today. Got home at 2:00 in the farking AM and got about four hours of sleep before I had to go to work. Would have cancelled the day, except we have a budget meeting and I'm not about to let that pack of jackals determine my department budget without me.

Plus, do you know how long it takes to read an entire weeks's worth of posts around here?

hmmm... well, adding in the new posts which continue to be generated while you're catching up on the old posts, i'd say... carry the 3... multiplied by... probably just under a week, except if you're on zany carter time.

I would like to officially protest the suggestion that I sleep. I know for a fact that I do not sleep, because I have never been woken by an alarm clock. I am always wide awake when my alarm goes off. (I really set it for the cat, as I am trying to encourage her to wait until the alarm before begging for breakfast. So far, she is proving to be a slow learner. At 17 years old.) In fact, I do spend 5-6 hours a day in a state that may seem to the layman to correspond to sleep, but in fact, is not.

During the hours of midnight to 6 AM, EST, I will generally recline on a horizontal pad in order to allow the muscles of my body to rest from the exertions of the day. (The occasion that I do not recline corresponds to occasional gallstone attacks, which require me to sit up all night.) During this time, I will frequently muse on the matters of the day, on future projects, or spend a few moments in random free association... a mental exercise, if you will, designed to refresh my brain cells, to allow recently acquired information to be examined and either stored in more permanent memory, or discarded, and to create new mental pathways that can lead to creative insights and inspiration.

While I am enjoying this rejuvenation period, I generally turn off my PC and shut down the office power, in order to conserve energy, reduce my carbon output and be a better member of the human race. (I usually turn off the lights in the house at night, for the same reason.)

So, as you can see, my absence from MR does not in any way correspond to a sleeping period. I would consider it a courtesy if you would refrain from accusing me of slumber in the future. Thank you.
