Hi Mort,

This is a self-published book. Can you confirm that it's previously been commercially published, or that you're posting it on the basis of a personal recommendation, please?

Many thanks,

Many thanks,
Looks like this was originally published in 1998. I have to admit in this case I just looked at the author (and not the publisher) as an known quantity with a decent backlist.

Prayers for Rain is the fifth in the Kenzie and Gennaro series by Dennis Lehane. It's $0.99 right now at Amazon US. No idea for how long...

http://www.amazon.com/Prayers-Rain-K.../dp/B000JMKNVK

Spoiler:
Quote:
When a former client jumps naked from a Boston landmark, Private Investigator Patrick Kenzie wants to know why. Once a perky young woman in love with life, her suicide is the final fall in a spiral of self-destruction.

What Kenzie discovers is a sadistic stalker who targeted the woman and methodically drove her to her death – a monster that the law can’t touch. But Kenzie can. He and his former partner, Angela Gennaro, will fight a mind-twisting battle against the psychopath, even as he turns tricks on them…

Prayers for Rain is another superior thriller from Dennis Lehane, the bestselling and acclaimed author of Mystic River, Shutter Island, and Gone, Baby, Gone.

Free today Amazon UK - The Bull Slayers by Alanna Knight

Travelling incognito on the Queen’s business involving a royal scandal which could imperil the throne, Faro’s fears are justified whem he leaves Edinburgh for the Scottish Borders into an area ruled over by the Elriggs, feudal barons still hunting with bow and arrow, making their own laws with murder treated as accident. Among the sinister forces at work, the ancient white cattle also roam dangerously free and Faro himself becomes a target for the Elrigg’s deadly games.

This isn't precisely a deal, but the early books in Catherine Aird's Inspector Sloan/Calleshire series have recently become available from Open Road. The first in the series, The Religious Body, is $1.99 at most US sites, but the rest are quite expensive for backlist books, mostly in the $8 to $9 range, depending on which US site you use.

However, if you are willing to travel to Kobo India, they are mostly 237 rupees, which translates to about US $3.70. Since some Kobo India prices went up not too long ago, I'm not sure if this will be more-or-less permanent pricing, or if it's some sort of an intro price structure.

Four dollars US is about the max I would ever pay for backlist ebooks, and I'm a lot happier under three dollars for backlist, but Aird is one of my top five or six favorite mystery authors so I paid the $3.70 per book to get these, and am now indulging in reading the series straight through on my phone. (If anyone cares, my other big favs are: Sarah Caudwell, Michael Pearce, Marvin Albert, Emma Lathen and David Wishart.) They might also be couponable in India with one of the older coupons from the first post in the Kobo Deals thread (link), but I didn't find one that worked that I hadn't already used with my India account.

Several of the later books in Aird's series are also available at Kobo India for pretty reasonable prices.

link (have to be visiting India store): https://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/se...catherine+aird

Hi sufue,
I'm enjoying working my way through the Aird re-releases too--quite a few I've never read.
Just wanted to mention they're on Scribd also. Pretty good deal to do a binge-read for 8.99 (month), if you don't care to own...

Man, some of these Open Road pre-orders are getting pretty ridiculous though, IMHO. I've recently seen John P. Marquand and Malcolm Bradbury titles for $14.99.
Curious to see if they'll continue with their Cyber Monday mega-sale as they have in the past, and to the same extent.
