And a new precursor series (Manticore Ascendant) with A Call to Duty and A Call to Arms, written with Timothy Zahn.
Would you mind posting a chronological listing with all three series please? Thanks.

Actually, that's the way Ms. Bujold recommends. Personally I don't pay any attention to published date. Chronological or just dipping into the middle works for me....

I keep meaning to get back into this series but every time I look at the books sitting on my reader I remember the 180 odd pages of info dump with nothing actually happening that was the start to War of Honor and I just can't get the motivation up.

Does the series get any better after that? Does the pace pick up a little? Is there less info dumping?

War of Honor was particularly bad. Yes, they get back on form, IMO.

Publication date order is actually pretty perfect in this case, because of the way the stories interlink. I left the anthologies too late, when I was reading, I think.

That depends on the series. In this case, chronological works.

Sorry to keep off-tracking this Honor Harrington thread [no, not *very* sorry; bound and determined to win some more Miles converts]. I first read a free online short from the middle of the series and was enchanted and hooked. Doesn't seem to be available online anywhere now; drat! Descriptions of Miles "the main character, Miles Vorkosigan is physically disabled, but his intelligence makes up for any physical deficiencies" ... "brains, guts, and character". Actually, one review suggests that many women like the series a lot *because* the hero has to use his brains to get out of fixes, rather than his brawn (which he lacks).

Anyway, I DID download and will try out Honor Harrington, too. I'm not just shilling for Miles.

With the exception of the two new Manticore Ascendant novels, the list I used is here at Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honorv...nal_chronology

I don't think you need to apologize too much. I have these books on my *must read* list. I think I'll tag it as the series of focus in 2016. Well, only if I really enjoy reading the first book, which I plan to do in 3Q2015.

The first volume, CORDELIA'S HONOR (Shards of Honor/Barrayar) sets up the bulk of the series. If you need to read one before committing to the full set you need to be exposed to Miles himself and he only shows up in the second volume, YOUNG MILES (Warrior's Apprentice/Mountains of Mourning/The Vor Game). For most people MOUNTAINS OF MORNING alone does it.

If you think you can commit to the full series by its (well-deserved) rep alone, then starting from CORDELIA'S HONOR is recommended as the elder protagonists tower over the entire series, even when not present.

The way the series is structured, I fully expect the focus to extend to the next generation of Vorkossigans soon.

Oh, I hope we see action from the next generation!

I was going to suggest the volume "Borders of Infinity" ... Which has Miles in a hospital bed, recollecting past exploits. The first one is "Mountains of Mourning", which indeed usually grabs people! The third one is the one I ran into online, which grabbed me, the single tale "Borders of Infinity" (yes, confusing, so make sure you are buying a volume of 3 tales, not just the single tale -- tho that alone is worth it too!).

Then go back and start with his mother, to learn where he gets his chutzpah & charisma. . Baen had them all on a CD at one point, tho that was when volume "Cryoburn" was sold as a hardback. I bought that, just to get the CD.

Oh yes... I remember the hissy fit Ms. Buold had when she found out about the CD. She accused The Fifth Imperium (site authorized by Baen to distribute the CDs) of pirating her books. She took a lot of heat from fans over her reaction. I managed to get a copy before the CD was removed from the site. Still a lot of the Baen CDs are still available (http://baencd.thefifthimperium.com/).
