Hi there,
I found this forum while checking out the sony reader. I have been using different variants of HP handheld computers for 10 years now to read ebooks, either as pocket word docs or more recently MS Reader. However, I am a bit frustrated at the screen size and have decided that the sony is for me. The 700 looks the better option, but is unavailable in the UK. However, a business trip to the US is on the horizon so I hope to buy one then.
Now if I could only find something to convert all my books from .lit to the Sony format.........

hello the_callant and welcome. you'll find lots of great ressources and information here, including plenty of free books to read (check the "ebooks" link in the blue menu bar at the top of the page).

for converting lit books to epub, might i recommend Calibre. it's an excellent conversion / library management program developped by one of our forum members. if your lit books are drm-ed you'll need to google for some information on Convert Lit first. there are plenty of experts around here who can help you if you have any questions.

i got a 700 2 days ago and so far i think it's brilliant.

HI the_callant and welcome to the Forum. I have a 505 and like it a lot. I expect you'll fell the same way about the 700.

Good advice there from Zelda regarding converting eBooks over to the Sony

Hello there! and welcome to MobileRead. This is the place to learn all about converting your .lit files to either .lrf or .epub so you can read them on your Sony device. This is also the place to get your hands on some extremely well-crafted books already formatted for the Sony reader. Be sure to check out library.

Might want to update your devices so everyone will know you joined the Sony revolution.
