My guess is that the box is incorrect--as you can see in the picture it's not the actual box that the Kobo Glo HD comes in--just a "dummy box" to take to the register. I remember reading in some early posts that the Glo HD was being incorrectly listed as having expandable memory. Maybe this box was put together based on the initial incorrect information. Anyway, do update us once you actually purchase your Glo HD!

The pictures and video at this review make it clear there is no MicroSD slot.

@PeterT
If the Reset Hole has no purpose, why is on the device, and explained in the Users Guide? This is a BIG flaw in the Kobo brand case. The main suggestions are to drill my own access hole -- really!!!? Perhaps some of the undocumented uses of the Power ON/OFF switch may work, but my experience (Glo) is that sometimes you just need to press the Reset with a paper clip. You seem to have some line to access the Kobo folks - what were they thinking?! I am livid as I passed up on less expensive options to buy this case, options that were correctly designed. |

The undocumented reset works, when you use only the on and off switch it is like a soft reset. The mention with the on and off set than tapping both corners is a factory reset so then everything is gone. The needle in the hole works as soft reset (like the power on/off mode I described). The covers are not so handy, my previous Kobo cover for the Glo sealed of the external card reader, it was not reachable. If you want/need to use the reset pin there are 2 options, make a hole yourself with a hot paperclip (leaves almost no damage) or get the device out of the cover. That seems "dangerous" but in order to reach the external reader in my case, it was needed to get it out every time. It does softly bend,if you do it easy you will not break anything (think I got my glo out a 50 times before I had to replace it because my cat was chewing on the main flap.) and there will be no damage at the reader. If you just turn it off holding the on/off button for 15 seconds, then put it on while holding for 15 seconds and then a fast press like you would normal do, then that is in 9 times efficient. Try it out, it will not damage anything. There are more triggers to let it do a reset, if the device is not well responding but still active you can connect it to the computer and put on the patch file again. (doesn't matter if it is already patched) After that the device will reboot and reset by itself. No fuzzy button sequence thing needed. |

Actually, the Glo HD is expandable to 32 GB. Some people have done it.
The fact that in order to do the expansion you have to break open the case (voiding the warranty) and clone the existing SD card is relatively unimportant. |

I have tried all except the last one. Unresponsive to all. As for connecting the device to the PC, the PC doesn't seem to recognize it. Usually, I tap the "connect" button on the device before the PC recognizes it. I can't tap that now as the device is unresponsive. Any ideas? It would have been fantastic if Kobo had provided a hard reset button. |

If that doesn't work there are 2 solutions, send your device in for service, or open the case (warranty void) which seems very easy on the Glo HD, and disconnect the battery. If that doesn't work,search for some topics if someone has the image of the card already,if the device is already open you can put the reader back in the original state by flashing the memory card that is in,by getting the internal card out (it is in a normal slot) and put it in your computer and restore the image. |

Thank you for all your suggestions. I am not worried about voiding the warranty; I live in Asia and it is not worth my while to send it back to Kobo. I will certainly try all of your suggestions, although some of them seem a bit drastic. ![]() Whilst my Glo HD is out of commission, I still have Kobo H2O, Kobo Mini and Kindle Keyboard. All of them are brilliant in their own way. Kobo H2O is my favourite at home and Kobo Mini is brilliantly handy when I am out and about. Kindle Keyboard now acts as my spare reader. I hope my Glo HD works eventually. If not, I will just order another one or two when Kobo next have a sale. |

But if you don't mind that it doesn't work.. I mean.. it is a brick now..what can you do,it can only being better. I saved a lot of devices just bij unplugging the battery to get it out of a bootloop. Sometimes it is so "fed up" that it just doesn't react at the boot request any more by the reset pin. If there is something damaged in the boot sequence, write back an image does solve the bootloop. Yes,they are drastic,but so is your problem ![]() |

Ok so i just went back into whsmith and bought the kobo your all right the actual box is very different looking to the image one. I opened it up in front of the sales guy and asked him to show me where the expandable storage was and he panicked a little and called over his buddy, who in turn called over the manager. within minutes I had 5 employees wondering what was going on all looking confused. (tbh it was embarrassing to be getting so much attention how do famous people do it?) There is no expandable storage from the outside. I did open the case when I got home and saw the microsd card on the inside as shown by others.
As for voiding warranty there is nothing to indicate the case has ever been opened once you do open it. no seals or stickers or glue inside to indicate it has ever been opened so i wouldn't worry about that at all. use a guitar pick or spudger or something not sharp to open the case. I would personally say expanding the storage is a trivial and easy matter anyone could do it. just take your time and follow the instructions linked by others. i would then keep the original microsd card safe and never use it for anything else. then switch it out if ever you need to deal with warranty. PS. this ereader is amazing, i actually bought the kindle voyage (my first ereader btw and it was spur of the moment) a few days ago and when side by side the white background really is noticeably different with the kindle winning in turn it makes the blacks look blacker. however when not side by side the Kobo looks really white and the blacks look really good. anyway the voyage is on the way back to Amazon already after only two days of owning it. I'm glad they have such a great refund policy. i can't justify the huge price difference between them on something like a whiter background or a beautifully flush screen. |
