New Humble Bundle is up, and it's for:
Humble Jim Henson Comics Bundle presented by BOOM! Studios with a mix of comics and novelizations from the beloved muppeteer's (Wikipedia) assorted franchises, including some Dark Crystal and Labyrinth stuff for the Brian Froud fans in the audience. It's another one of those where the top tier is pay-X-more-than-average (just +$2 this time), and it's a 1-week deal, so no bonus books later. Contents as follows (current average is around $6): Quote:

Average up to $8.31 already.
I really need to remember to check these on schedule. Humble has a pretty set schedule for all their bundles, right? |

11 AM Pacific Time is when they rotate stuff, yes.
Tuesday for main-page game bundles, Wednesday for Books/Comics, Thursday for Weekly bundle, Friday for Mobile bundle if available. The interesting thing about HB is that if you keep a version of the bundle page open where it says it's at a particular price, and check in another browser window later where the price has changed, you can still input your order on the original (presumably lower-priced) page and get all the extra stuff for said lower price even though it should technically be higher*. It's a trick I learned to deal with the assorted price fluctuations in the first couple of hours of a bundle, when the balance between the people dumping in $50 to get their names on the leaderboard, and the people cheaping out at $1 for the lowest-tier, keeps driving things up and down. Incidentally, average for the Henson bundle is now at $6.50-ish, so that seems a decent point to jump on if you haven't already, although you may wish to hold on to see if it goes a bit lower (generally I've noticed that once it's into the evening of the first day, the average pretty much stays around there for the rest of the allotted time, except for that Bloom County bundle where it just kept climbing throughout the week). * You can check to see what you get by deliberately putting in a price somewhat lower than the average/top tier, and a warning message will pop up saying "Add just X to get these additional items". |

Any recommendations from the DC sale? I've been told Forever Evil is pretty good. When I was a kid, I used to leave in a small town and DC comics almost never arrived there. I wonder if this sale is a good opportunity to get to know the DC universe a little bit.

IIRC, the old Ostrander-written Martian Manhunter series was generally pretty good (I have a chunk of the back issues from a long ago local comic shop discount bin sale). It's probably been completely invalidated by all the reboots since then, but it's got solid storytelling and some thoughtful stuff done with the character and his situation. Maybe try the #0 origin issue and perhaps the first story-arc and see if you like Ostrander's take on things? I haven't read all that much of the Conner/Palmiotti Power Girl series, but the issues I have in the TPB were cute and funny and nicely entertaining (cartoony art may or may not be to your taste), and this is something I think I would personally buy if I were into buying digital comics from the Big 2 (still prefer TPBs for stuff I consider "keepers", especially when the digital has DRM involved). Long, long ago, I did at some point read the Devin Grayson-written Arsenal mini-series, and it was an okay piece of mostly character-based storytelling with enough of an action/adventure component which delved into Roy's then-current insecurities while giving him places to go and people to beat up. I don't know whether or not it would hold up all that much on its own these days, but ISTR it being at least mildly fun with some amusing dialogue/situation moments, and it tied into Grayson' Titans run at the time, so if you're interested in the character history (probably also wiped out by reboot) or liked that incarnation of the team, it's probably worth a look. |

Thank you for your answer! You got me thinking about digital comics and DRM. The Humble Comics Bundle made me realize that it is a pleasure to read comics on my tablet, so I wanted to splurge a little and get some titles from this sale. But I also dislike DRM and I would prefer paperbacks instead, so I guess I'll have to visit a comic store next time I go to Madrid. I wonder if they sell comics in English.
Anyway, this DC sale doesn't look that awesome to me, as they are only discounting single issues and not whole collections. But maybe I am wrong and this kind of DC sale is actually rare? Last edited by Andanzas; 06-17-2015 at 04:56 AM. |

About 20 new freebies at Dark Horse. They aren't added into your account unless you load them in your browser/app; various freebies disappear often and won't be in your account for free unless you previously loaded them; they aren't ordered by 'freedom' date but all jumbled in; so I don't know of any sure way of getting them all into your account except by clicking on them all. There must be a better way though; anyone know?
