Vaetra Unveiled by Daniel R. Marvello is another free indie that I read and enjoyed. It's the first in a series of three and I'm halfway through the second book, which I'm still enjoying.
B&N Kobo Amazon.

The Vaetra series is classic swords & sorcery fantasy. There's a romantic element that is alluded to and set up in the first book, but becomes a major motivational plot element in the second. The magic ("vaetra") system is novel and developed very well and the protagonist's progression from a fear of magic to becoming a sorcerer is also an important plot component. Much of the story revolves around the "nuts and bolts" of how magic works and in that sense, I'm actually reminded of SF books and their tendency to indulge in desriptions of fanciful technology. The author's style reminds me of Mercedes Lackey, if that helps either way.

The series appears to have been well-edited (I wouldn't have made it to the end of the first book, otherwise) and the first ending wasn't a cliffhanger (or I wouldn't have bought the second). The two remaining books in the series, Vaetra Untrained and Vaetra Unleashed are $2.99 and $3.99 respectively and couponable at Kobo.

Quote:
Bored with his life as an innkeeper, Jaylan Forester takes a promising mercenary contract. The adventure goes out of control when he discovers that his client is being pursued by Sulana Delano, an intriguing Sword Sorceress from an enclave of sorcerers known as The Archives. Taught from birth to shun sorcerers, Jaylan must overcome his distrust of magic when an unexpected turn of events embroils Jaylan in Sulana's mission to recover a stolen mysterious artifact. Along the way, Jaylan learns that he too has the capacity to become a sorcerer. He must decide if he wants to explore his newfound abilities or resume the comfortable life he has always known. Fate has its own ideas about the path he should take.

X-link to the DRM-free megathread since the bundle is a mix of new and established authors mostly from a small press startup:

StoryBundle's Epic Fantasy Bundle (2015), selected by Kevin J. Anderson mostly from his WordFire Press imprint (available via Baen's ebookstore), includes titles by Jody Lynn Nye (ISFDB, Wikipedia) , Paolo Bacigalupi (ISFDB, Wikipedia), Sherwood Smith (ISFDB, Wikipedia), et al., alongside a unicorn-themed anthology featuring what appears to be a brand-new story by Peter S. Beagle (ISFDB, Wikipedia), at tiers from pay-what-you-want (minimum $5) for 6 books, to $15 for an additional 4 novels + 2 novellas.

You get a freebie Kevin J. Anderson novella written in collaboration with Rush rock band drummer Neil Peart, just for signing up for the newsletter (no purchase necessary).

Also, if you RPG, there's a bundle deal on Pelgrane Press' Trail of Cthulhu gamebooks if you'd like to play in 1930s Lovecraftian London.

DRM-free, since it's a Tor book.
Kobo coupons are valid for it, so you can get it even cheaper.
I also recommend this book, and the series. However, as a Tor book, you're not going to be able to use a coupon at Kobo, at least not in the US.

I'm outside the US, and used a 35% coupon from the Kobo thread on these forums.

The Bite on the Line

The Bite on the Line by Simon Cantan is for free at most resellers (as far as I know).

I'm currently reading the fifth book in the Bytarend series (The Bite of Rust) and I suddenly realised that this series is turning into a real joy to read! So time to share it with you all

The first book, The Bite on the Line, isn't as mature yet as the one I'm currently reading, but it was enjoyable enough to get me hooked.

The series revolve around Bytarend, a mining town in the middle of nowhere. The feeling is a bit like the early Discworld books, seasoned with a slight touch of steampunk.

Ditto. I clicked "download" and then opened the book directly in Calibre2 (for Windows 7, 64 bits).

Wanderers: Ragnarök by Richard A Bamberg

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CCTUPUW

Book details:
Alone and friendless, the Wanderers, servants of Fate, maintain the balance between the supernatural world and mankind’s. For millennia the Wanderers protected that balance-but now a renegade Wanderer arises to open the doors between the Earth and our greatest nightmares. Years ago, Fate scavenged Rafe from the battlefields of Vietnam, handing him over to a mentor he barely knew before the rogue Wanderer slaughtered him. Skilled but only half-trained, Rafe tracks down a warning from a naiad in Alabama only to find a coven of witches probing deeper into dark magics than they ever intended. Rafe must stop the witches from destroying the already-fragile balance...but can he do it before the lovely young witch helping Rafe gets sacrificed for the greater good?
