Hey, just chiming in with my own few (nostalgic...) thoughts. I own both the T1 and the T3S (the one without the cover) and I am perfectly happy with what SONY did the last few years they've been in the market. With the T3, they fixed every issue I had with the T1:
And they preserved the things the Tx range of readers had going for them in the first place:
I am using a Gecko cover for both readers. Very well made, very good customer service (I had to replace my first T1 cover due to a manufacturing issue, they were very forthcoming!). The T1 one (blue, luxury edition) conveniently hides the glossy bezel, and the T3S one (green) most conveniently supports the sleep cover functionality, just like the original cover! I am quite a bit sad that SONY decided to leave the market (I wonder what a T4 would have looked like?), and I dread the day my trusted T3 won't be working anymore. Per chance, do you know if any of the other epub readers has dictionaries of the quality the SONY had? I am quite spoiled in this regard, still being baffled about how many words I could learn regarding medieval heraldry (Game of Thrones) or shrub denominations and dialect words in southern Africa (No. 1 ladies' detective agency series). As a non-native speaker, quality dictionaries at a finger's tip is what brought me to e-reading in the first place... If my reader went out right now, I guess the recently announced Kobo Glo HD would seem to be the most appealing surrogate right now (no capacative touch layer obstructing the hires E Ink carta display). |

The Kindles have extremely good dictionaries. From what I've heard, the Kobo dictionaries are rather meh. At least, they probably have lots of common stuff, but they are supposed to be not nearly as extensive, and you do want to look up obscure words...

I just bought a T1 and I am loving it! Tried a Kobo Touch for about 6 weeks and it's just not for me.

Last year my Kobo Vox bit the dust and I pulled out my old Sony PRS-300. No touch screen, no wifi, but still works after a few years of use followed by a couple years of complete neglect while the Kobo worked. I've researched replacements, but another Kobo is the front-runner and since I had a nightmare experience with their (lack of) customer service on multiple occasions, I'm not sure I want another Kobo product. So, until it quits, I'm sticking with my Sony "old faithful."

I was in a slight state of panic these past 2 weeks thinking that my 350 had bit the dust. I detailed this in another thread so won't rehash, but it is working again. I was dreading to find a replacement. There were so many options when I settled on my Sony, now there is basically 2, Kobo or Kindle, Nook is questionable. So here's to enjoying our Sony's while we can.

Have to say the T2 is a great device. I don't know what I'll replace it with when it dies. Not a lot of choice out there. Might have to go shopping next time I'm in Europe

I swapped out my T1 for an H2O and I find it very good. So give a look at the current Kobo when you are ready to leave the T2.

I still have my T3 and 650. Sold my T1 and am waiting for my Voyage to arrive.
I still have two 500's as well. Both are working fine. |

I love my Sony PRS-950.. I even have two of them for no good reason (and I only ever use one..) but I did finally decide to upgrade. I need front lighting for a better experience at this point, but the beauty of the PRS-950 (the size, the materials, etc.).. I got the Kindle Voyage and while I understand it's much higher res, a much more advanced screen, but I can still look at my PRS-950 and appreciate that it's got a gorgeous screen. And the Voyage is so tiny by comparison. I'd rather have more screen space.

There's no way I would get rid of my Sony PRS 950 (nor my backup PRS 950).

Is the extra one inch noticeable on the PRS-950?
I've never understood why 6" seems to be the standard ereader screen size. It's smaller than a paperback book so either you flip pages more often or you have smaller fonts. 7" just doesn't sound like a major improvement. I keep thinking only the Kindle DX had the right idea at 9.7", but as old as they are, they still get a considerable premium on ebay. |

the 7" screen on the prs-950 is very noticeably different from the 6" screen. this format looks a lot more like a paperback novel than the 6" screen. i've had a 950 for a while but have given it up for a model with a built-in light.

I wouldn't give up my T1 for a light. I have plenty of lamps to read by. :-)
Might consider a 950 for a second unit. I was considering a T2 though. |
